Photographer’s Note

The mill Tosset XVe century.
The borough of Griselles dominates the valley of Cléry. This small river takes its source in the department of Yonne and changes three times of name along its course: towards Courtenay, it names Clairis, with Saddle-on-the-Bied, one calls it Bied, finally it becomes Cléry with Griselles.
The country is occupied by the man since the bronze age perhaps earlier... One found axes, a knife and pearls vitrified with the hamlet of Beaumarchais. Later the Romans were established in Griselles. The Roman way which connected Courtenay to the bridge of Fontenay crossed the village. In the borough, one discovered sarcophagi in the vicinity of the church. They were broken and used to build the wall of the cemetery. These tombs contained each one a small pillow hones some under the head of the skeleton, coal and sometimes of the Roman medals from which one dated from year 270, reign of the Gordien emperor.
