Tosset mill
Located in the canton of Tool bags (Loiret), to approximately 100 km in the South-east of Paris, 80 km of Orleans (prefecture) and with 15 km of Montargis (sub-prefecture), the commune of Griselles counts 740 inhabitants divided out of 3032 hectares of which approximately 800 are occupied by the forest of Montargis, formerly royal forest.
The mills always form part of our landscapes and their origin is so old that it remains obscure, related on the myths and the legends. One knows only that it goes up with the invention of the grinding stone, circular part furnished with scratches suitable to crush the grain manually. Built out of wood in the forest areas, out of stone or brick elsewhere, they are admirable witnesses of our inventive spirit to use free natural energies, the force of water then that of the wind. They were the base of the artisanal economy, this is why the age of the mill lasted several centuries. One thinks of the flours (corn, corn, buckwheat), with oils (olive, flax), with cloths (wool, cotton, hemp), with paper. Their uses were actually very broad: the mill crushed the scaffold-poles of oak for the tanning of the skins, actuated the hammer of the forging mills, the sawmills, sharpened the knives...
