This feodal tower, dating from the tenth century and called "Shoulder Gallardon" is the ruin of an ancient tower of the twelfth century. It measures 38.50 meters, high for inside diameter of 9 m and 18 m outside. It formed a strategic point in the center of 14 hills overlooking 7 fertile valleys. This tower severely damaged in 1421, is the remains of a castle, built in the tenth century, which was destroyed by Dunois, companion of Joan of Arc in 1443 to expel the British under the command of the Dauphin, Charles VII. Gallardon was regarded at the time as a stronghold coveted belligerents of the Hundred Years War.

Bonsoir, cher ami Didi,

Ciao e buon fine settimana

I clicked on the thumbnail because I thought it would be a sculpture. So I was a little surprise to see a tower ruin. It looks very dangerous.

snunney (99184) 2014-04-13 2:38
A well composed image with the massive tower nicely juxtaposed against the adjacent trees giving a sense of scale. The saturated blue sky makes a fine backdrop for the old stones. Top class technical presentation.

Almost incredible that these ruin remains after six centuries.
You brought these old part of tower exactly beside the nice orchard, but without blossoms
Great architecture image with pleasant colours and great presentation.
Excellent composition with depth and perspective.
Very well done, TFS.
Amicalment, et bonne dimanche,

the story in your note is striking, this ruined tower is all that's left of the mighty castle. The tower itself looks like a sculpture now, it's amazing how this wounded wall still manages to stand. A very fine composition with pleasing depth and very rewarding textures and colours. This place is lovely in its spring colours and sunshine, the contrasting context it creates for the suggestive ruin is superb. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,

The composition is very strong with the tower placed very well in the frame. I like the excellent clarity that shows the textures on the old tower. A spring atmosphere with a lovely blue sky - superb!
Kind Regards, Ann

for me it is a miracle that it still is standing! It looks like it can collapse in any moment. Nice composition and beautiful colors, an extra bonus to see the blooming trees, tfs!

It is really surprising that this more 38 meter high medieval tower is still standing, when only one half of it is left. You really have something exciting to tell with your note and your photo very nice with blooming trees and the beautiful blue sky. TFS and have a fine week!

What a pity some of these iconic treasures are sadly decaying & one day will be gone forever - I imagine it was a wonderful castle in its day... if only the mortar & stones could talk.
Great photo & congratulations on your well written notes.

Hello Didi - The remains of the tower has an interesting twisted look and the details here are good. The subject is set in a lovely rural scene and, for me, the colour palette is one of the most visually pleasing in landscape work. A super note too.
ChrisJ (114095) 2014-04-16 13:10
Good density levels with excellent sharpness and punchy light contrasts. The twisted ruin of the tower adds a fine focal point and graphic elements. A nice blue sky that contrasts well against the red roof and brick wall at right. Tfs!

Oh, the French and the British have niggled at one another's boundaries for centuries. The ordinary people would have been quite happy with what they had, but kings and queens could be greedy!!
This ruined tower is a reminder of what is history. It is nicely textured and well positioned in the frame, on a diagonal from the path and the linking tree.
The light and the colours are delightful.
My warm regards,

Not much left of the ruin, but it makes a great photography subject. Excellent quality photo. I love the atmoshere of spring air, with lush green and clear blue sky. The environment is charming and very inviting for a walk.

A lovely shot of a historic site with the eye catching structure dominates strongly in the tranquil rural setting shaded by such a wonderful spotless blue skies. I feel strength of this shot lies on the tremendous detail of the ruin, the rich colour tones, the subtle light and the overall contrast. Delightful shot and thks to your infor notes. Congrats

Note intéressante. Bien fait.

Salut mon cher Didi
A very vibrant image, beautifully composing this fascinating and compelling subject. Ruins are often difficult to get the best of, but here you have done a marvellous job. Simply stunning, congratulations.
Noel_Byrne (31136) 2014-05-11 3:30
A beautiful ruin and impressive in its height that it has survived so long and not collapsed! An investing history behind it too. Beautifully composed on the third, and a really fine blue sky to present it against. One of my favourite subjects is old ruins and castles, so this really appeals to me.
Thanks for sharing.

There's obviously not much left from it's original build, but these ruins sure have a strong presence in this image. Amazing to think that even this much is still standing after all these years. Wonderfully placed within the frame, this is a very well balanced and conscious composition with lovely colors and fine detail. Bonne soiree. All the best.

I really like your pictures of historical places and ruins. Also this one is great. Fresh, natural colors and a touch of mystery around this old ruins.
