Photographer’s Note

Castle-Renault, in the heart of the Tourainne area owes its name with the foundation at the 11th century by Geoffroy, vassal of the count de Blois, a castle to the confluence of Brenne and Gault, to which it gave the name of his Renaud son. We enter in the enclosure of the castle by a strengthened door of the 12th century, named also "Counter". The buildings of the castle were given to the city in 1947 by the Calmon family. They date for the greatest part of the 17th century. Medieval fortress remains the keep: 19 m cylindrical turn high, built at the 12th century and protected at its base by a square enclosure. Esplanade of the castle, a pedestrian path makes it possible to reach on the edges of Brenne.
