Erected in the XVth century, the Ducal palace is located in Nevers downtown, Burgundy. That city was initially called "Noviodunum" was an important Roman place.
The palace is considered as the first of a Loire castles serie. The front wall embodies a great Renaissance architecture style.
The middle tower is protecting a great staircase and many sculptures are covering the walls, the different windows. It used to be the main castle of the dukes of Nevers like Louis de Gonzague who brought many Renaissance elements to the building.
In 1793, after the French Revolution, the municipality got ownership of the castle then turned it into the Justice palace. It kept that justice part in Nevers until early 1980's when the authorities decided to dedicate funds and to open it to visitors.

This picture looks eery and like something out of a horror movie! The lighting on the building is excellent, with lots of details and sharpness, and the clouds in the background give it a fairy-tale like effect.
Looking at it more closely, it seems as if you were standing a bit to the left of the building, not square on. I think standing dead centre would have given it a more symmetrical look. A very small thing, I might add! This picture's excellent.

What an interesting composition of patchy skies and "patchy" Palace...The whole picture is patched with light and dark areas...composition is simple and effective...

ca fait tres chateau de sorciere avec ce traitement...tu devrais t'associer avec Simon, il fournit les balais... en tout cas j'aime bien ces contrastes... tu ne donnes plus de news?

Nice picture. Maybe a little bit classical but lovely anyway.
Have you thought in this picture in B&W?

I'm looking at the photo and wondering how you got this final version, what kind of technique did you use in PP-ing...
But the effect of a drama and imposrtance of this palace is well presented and the note is most informative.
The middle tower is absolutely gorgeous and a real piece of architectural work!

This seems to be a heavily pp result, but I enjoy it a lot. The atmosphere here is so good - great 'haunted house' feeling. Since you've mentioned the French Revolution in the notes, this reminds me of the reign of terror period several years before Napoleon. Lovely work.
