Photographer’s Note

Lantern on the church St-Joseph-of-Angels.
Among the most strange and mysterious constructions that us bequeathed the past, in good place the lanterns of deaths appear. Built for the majority around XIIe century, it is thought that these small hollow towers, surmounted of an openwork house and in which one hoisted in the twilight a lit lamp, played the part of a kind of headlight intended to guide the hearts of disappeared towards the eternal rest. More especially as one finds them practically only with the accesses of the cemeteries, although some could disappear with the wire from time. The presence of a lantern, if it were not moved, can then materialize the site of an old place of burial forgotten today.
