The first of the Gothic cathedrals
About 1135, the archbishop Henri Sanglier decides to replace the cathedral of Xe century by a building imposing and worthy of the important metropolis sénonaise. At the time when rise everywhere Romance constructions, Henri Sanglier calls an innovative architect which will propose a revolutionary design of voûtement, the intersecting ribs. Is born a full cathedral then, of a simple and continuous volume, made up of a central vessel and two collateral. The building site will be completed with the Western frontage only at the end of XIIe century. Between 1490 and 1517, one undertakes construction, in a blazing Gothic, of a large transept whose work is entrusted to an important Parisian project superintendent, Martin Chambiges.
