Rogny-les-Sept-Ecluses
The village owes its name by the "Seven-Locks", structure placed on the canal of Briare and carried out at beginning XVII° century on a project of king Henri IV and his minister Sully.
The unevenness on the side of Rogny was 24 meters. The architect Hugues Cosnier imagined this whole of 6 locks (later coupled with a seventh).
In September 1642 the first boat could from the Loire to the Seine descending the 24 meters from the large water staircase of Rogny.
The seven locks functioned until 1880, they were replaced by 6 separate locks.
The canal currently circumvents the old work who is classified with the inheritance of the historic monuments.
