After my last upload showed the impressive bed hall where the poor where treated in the Hospice de Beaune, today we take a look at the equally beautiful roof, made of the colored slates, Burgundy is so known for.
But these kind of tiles didn't originate in Burgundy. They where rather invented in Austria and found there way via Flanders to Burgundy, where they where very popular during the 16th century. Later they came out of fashion in the region, but where still used largely in some regions in Italy, Germany and Switzerland. If, in fact you take a look at the Cathedral of my hometown Basel in my gallery, you can easily spot the similarity of the roof patterns.

I think it shows a true love of your design in architecture to build a building and put this much thought and cool design into the roof slates! Many people would probably never even bother to look up and won't appciate it, but your post today allows us all to appreciate it well. A great angle of choice too, the combination of the two directions the roof travels I gives excellent depth and the pinnacles are brilliant.

Beaune è una bella città, con ottimo cibo ed eccellente vino, molto tranquilla e questa che ci presenti è la sua architettura migliore.
La foto ci mostra la straordinaria copertura, un insieme di disegni geometrici e di colori molto attraente.
