Le Bouchet Nicolas Department Haute Loire - Population 248 inhabitants - 1700 cows - Altitude 1228 meters.
For this large weekend of July 14, 2008 the sun was not in the rendez-vous.
Rain, wind and greyness were in my holidays menu, a short break enabled me to photograph this church of the 19th century in five pictures.
It was the Scottish writer Robert Louis Stevenson who gave to this village a certain importance.
On September 22 1878, the young writer began a travel from Monastier-on-Gazeille with a donkey by name of Modestine. He made a first halt in Le Bouchet Saint Nicolas and spent one night in an inn.
In 12 days, it crosses Velay, the volcanic plates of low Auvergne, Gevaudan, the Lozere Mount and the Cevennes to reach St Jean du Gard; a very particular voyage approximately about 250 km.
It is the famous GR 70 Trail.
Its travel diary was published in 1879, the title is: Travel with donkey through the Cevennes.
