Val Castle, a photo from Auvergne, Central

Photographer's Note

At the request of Jose Elias here the original photograph of the castle of Valley transformed into black and White with a wide view.

Built in the XVe century, VAL is one of the castles best preserved and one of most remarkable of High-Auvergne at the limit of the Limousin. This imposing fortress is flanked of six crowned of machicolation and capped towers roofs in pepper cup, whose various covers give to the roof of VAL an original shimmer of colors.
VAL is since 1953 the property of the town of Bort-les-Orgues. It is located on the commune of Lanobre, in the Cantal.
This is the end of my summer holidays. in the future, some photographs of these holidays will be inserted in this travelogue; they will be classified automatically in the chronological order of the dates.
It was for me a true pleasure for sharing my holidays picture with all the TE members.

Great looking castle and a good choice for a B&W, I might have considered a tighter crop though.
This shot would be a good starting point for some experimenting with photo editing software: changing the sky to a dramatic stormy one, perhaps.

Nice casltle and I like your choice ofB&W, gives more for atmosphere of cold stone.
Very clear so I can see every part of the walls. The sky is soft and I like the graduated light.

Très beau Chateau, rendu en Noir et Blanc parfait pour ces vieilles pierres. Finesse et détails tout à fait à la hauteur
de ce monument.

The BW version sure must have been the right choice here. The light is working well and is perfect for this building. The off centered positioning is the right placement of the main motive and contributes to the overall impression in a good way.

First, I think you could have posted this as a new image, because you've "hided" the other one...

About the image I must say I prefer this one very much. The contrast of the dark castle against the light and misty background landscape is great and add a lot of sense of distance.

The details are still well captured and seen and the off-center composition add a lot of strenght to the castle.

Seing this I think you've got a lot of pottential to work on this image. You cold play with the colors in a sepia version, apply a filter to darken the corner as in the old images... Very nice.

Beaucoup plus dramatique que l'autre version Said. La composition qui laisse voir la nature autour du chateau est selon moi très interessante.
C'est également un plaisir pour nous de visionner vos images de vacances.

Effectivement, je viens de comparer les deux versions et celle-ci est largement plus enthousiasmante. Dans cette version, les tours sont encore plus vertigineuses et inquiétante. Le travail de filtre sur le ciel est également largement plus discret et efficace.

Et je dois dire que le noir et blanc va comme un gant à ce chateau imprenable.

L'effet N/B est très joli ici car il nous replonge dans cette époque médiévale.
J'apprécie les détails très nets et la présentation soignée.

Beautiful, Said, and very very well captured. It is excellent in b/w and the soft contrast f the background adds a special wood. I appreciate the fact that no modern objects are seen in this photo, and that the castle is in a very god shape.

La prise de vue est très originale, l'on a du mal à croire que ce château repose sur une sorte d'îlot entouré d'eau.
Le choix du noir et blanc accentue le côté ancien, les tours à poivrière jouent les sentinelles et protègent le corps central du logis.
Une belle réussite, Saïd.

Quelle belle ambiance, Saïd !! Le noir et blanc n'est pas trop ton style d'habitude, mais ici ça vaut vraiment le coup !.. Excellent, vraiment.. et cette version décentrée me parait bien meilleure à l'autre, même si cette dernière favorisait les détails. Du beau travail !

Beaucoup d'atmosphère dans cette image! Un excellent choix du noir & blanc et le cadrage qui déplace le chateau sur la droite par rapport à la 1ère photo est bien pensé. Définitivement une amélioration qua composition et contrastes. Joli travail Saïd...

j'adore ce genre de chateau... Le noir et blanc est, je dois le reconnaitre assez adapté à un vieux monument...
Bien vu.. Il faudra que je me fasse un itinéraire pour y passer un jour.. Incroyable comme position.

J'ai la chance de pouvoir photographier ce château à tous moments de l'année et de la journée.
Bien joué pour l'angle de prise de vue de l'original quant à la transformation en noir et blanc, cet angle s'y prête parfaitement.

C'est un superbe monument qui mérite d'être montré.
Le noir et blanc est une bonne idée pour montrer ce beau château.
La luminosité et le contraste sont vraiment bien rendus et la netteté de l'image est étonnante.
Vraiment un cliché que je prends plaisir à regarder.

Elle est sympa cette ambiance N&B. Meilleure que la couleur, je trouve. Belle vue sur un chateau qui semble en parfait état... Bon décentrage également.
