Photographer’s Note

I just can't help reminiscing about the amazing Safari Shir (shirgold) and I experienced up in the cold wilderness of Kussamo, Finland.
This is another scene of our ice climb as Shir makes his way up the frozen waterfall.I'd already had my go missing out on reaching the top but once I saw
he'd made it I just had to have another go.
I got there.....but suffered the consequences of using muscles that didn't really agree with the idea!!!!

Well exposed, David, with nice strong colors (the guy in red, the deep blue sky) agains the very white ice... cheers ;) Daniel

Hi David!
I don`t like ice and snow and I have a problem with height......
But I like this composition.Your low POV works well here and show how steep this icewall is.Good diagonals of these ropes and great contrast with his red cloth.

You keep on adding excellent shots on your Kuusamo portfolio, it was a great trip. Strong blue and red colours against ice wall look really nice. Good framing and strong sense of action.

Hi David,
The brightly clad ice climber contrast beautifully with the finely detailed ice and snow of this frozen falls. The vivid blue sky and ice encrusted trees at the top are fine additional elements to this lovely vertical winter presentation.

Hello David,

I feel it ice and snow when I this see, the climber with both hands work, this gives a very nice image.
I see the cord above is not on the best place, but this is a detail, and not relevant on the photograph.
Great quality and sharpness.

My first thought was Santa Claus. Good sharpness, with a well managed exposure on the snow. There is still detail & visible texture in the highlights. Tfs!

Hi David,
Like skydivers, these ice climbers are a different breed. We have quite a few of these ice climbers in our Colorado Rockies during the winter months. Many of them like to climb right above frozen waterfalls This endeavor has to be VERY dangerous. One mishap, and someone is in a very dire predicament! I love the way that you have included both the deep blue sky and the bold red oufit worn by the brave (or crazy) climber. The bold colors go very well with the textures of the ice and hard-packed snow. Excellent action/adventure shot!
