Hello David
Indeed, the effect is impressive and does look like the beam of a searchlight ... well chosen title. Beautiful warm colours. Well done.
Best wishes
Mark
Hi David,
I like absolutely of this splendid picture, maybe I should under 3 cm cropped, now the dark part is very big, but tyhe sky with the (Searchlight) sun beam is wonderful.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice week,
John

Hi David,
the composition is very beautiful, this phenomenon that gives the sun to us is fantastic and produces wonderful colors and tones.
The forest in backlighting between the snow and the sky forms a very pretty image, and the ray of sun light that leaves sudden flight towards the infinite is amazing.
The light of this sunset inspires a feeling of peace and very pleasant tranquillity to me.
It's a great shot, my friend.
Regards,
Josep

a very nice and impressive pciture. The note you had given in the previous one was very detailed so I will also mark this one as usefull since the link works perfectly. Excellent colors in the sky, with very nice little clouds. Perhaps a bit of cropping in the bottom would be a suggestion.
All the best,
Emmanuel

Hi David,
Stunning shot of this sun pillar. Although the clouds are nicer in the other shot, the sun pillar is much better here. I do like the way you've centered the light; it's almost like a fountain of sunlight. I would have cropped a bit more off the bottom, more in the range of 1/3. Glad to see you back and that you have some time to unwind.
Regards, Pat
Very interesting phenomenon that you have captured well. I looked at your link and think the 'ray of light' is perhaps a bit stronger compositionally. However, you have a striking image here with such clarity and detail to support your concept.
I tried a workshop to lighten the foreground somewhat. This is very subtle and good. I looked at the other comments and cropped the lower edge a bit. I do not like the results but posted for all to compare.
I like the lower edge as is the long view toward the sunset.
Nice job, David!

Hi David,
A simple but effective shot of this phenomenon. It would have been nice to have a little more light in the foreground to appreciate the water, but there is certainly a fine ambience. Without that extra light it was definitely a good idea to centre the the beam of light. I like the silhouettes of the trees appearing on the ridge. Well captured.

David~
Amazing sunset. The highlight in the center of the photo really gives the impression of a searchlight. THe funny thing is that searchlights tend to operate at night, and this is visible when it is still daylight. I think that is very unique and fresh. Well done!

What a beautiful sky, David, and a lovely capture of this special light effect of the sun pillar. The golden pink colours are superb. I do agree with others who've suggested a crop from the bottom, which would allow more focus on the sunset. I like the silhouetted treetops against the sky too.

Hi David,
Very good note (I have also found some curious effects during sunset in places with high pollution).
I like very much the central composition since it enhances the presence of the pillar. Just as a matter of personal preference I would have cropped a little of the bottom, since it has less impact; (like it is done in the WS).
Kind regards and have a nice weekend, saludos,
Carlos

Hej David,
The light is wonderful and I like the colours also very much! The contrast of the dark bottom part and the light top of the picture is also very good. Great work, thanks for sharing!

Hi David
this is an impressive capture of the sunlight and rays. The sky is nice and warm and contrasts markedly with the sea. The ray of light, is truly amazing and I like the way you have centered the light too. Well captured.

no, no, this must be an alien searchlight, david! *g*
amazing shot of this interesting phenomenon.
the symmetrical composition works very well and the colors
are superb, i agree with the others on the cropping of the dark part.
anyway, the photos has such a nice calm atmosphere...
(something that was missing the last weeks in Israel - i hope
things are going back to normal now.)
best wishes & take care, thorsten.

Shaloom David, after posting several sun pillars I also recently discovered this shot which you put on TN.
I have included a link in my Notes, amd I trust this meets with your approval. Have a look here.
It is again not clear to me from your Notes whether we are looking at a sunrise or a sunset pillar here... I'd be interested in learning more.
Encore, Jay

Another nice one indeed of this amazing phenomenon, the centered alignment is a nice try for this time, but I liked the former more with the large part of the sky. Also would encourage removing a bigger part of the black silhouette. (Do I see some lines in there? little distracting..)
