Regards from Finland! I came today by ferry from Tallinn. It was something new and fun to me to go through frozen sea. Quite strange idea to go in winter to northern countries but I am crazy traveller and I enjoy this new trip. It is colour photo but all looks just like this - black and white. I started sightseeing of Helsinki with this square - Tsar Alexander stands in front of the cathedral.
Helsinki Cathedral (Finnish: Helsingin tuomiokirkko, Suurkirkko; Swedish: Helsingfors domkyrka, Storkyrkan) is the Finnish Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of the Diocese of Helsinki, located in the neighbourhood of Kruununhaka in the centre of Helsinki, Finland. The church was originally built from 1830-1852 as a tribute to the Grand Duke of Finland, Tsar Nicholas I of Russia. It was also known as St Nicholas' Church until the independence of Finland in 1917. (Wikipedia)

Ciao e buona serata

amazing composition from statue and building you captured.

Easy to guess that it's not b&w as soon as you ask the question
Seeing the red cloth at right is the clear answer
But you're right, the scenery is so gray that it could have been b&w
nonetheless it's a good one for my personal taste since this grayness and dull light render well well the mood of the place at this time
Have a nice evening

So you've just today arrived in Helsinki and already posting photographs!
This is avery beautiful picture which, as you say, looks almost completely black and white, except for the little bits of red clothing in the right foreground. Is it really as grey and colourless as this? I suppose that there is a rather nice creamy colour to the stonework of the cathedral which does "lift" it from the greyness.
Your note is interesting and your picture excellent. Lovely light and tones, perfect exposure and stunning details and sharpness.
Have a wonderful and safe trip!

It is hard to shoot in winter when the sky and light do not cooperate, but you have worked around it well in two ways: first, the architecture of the Church, staircase and monument takes up a lot of space in the picture; second, you have shot straight on to emphasize the symmetry of the scene. Great job!

The amount of snow still seems very reasonable. However I've never been in the north in winter.
That's something for seasoned Polish travelers :)
The cathedral at the top of the stairs looks impressive.
Indeed it's a bit a black & white world.
I suppose you don't have too much daylight hours at this time of the year.
Best regards, Paul

Elegancki symetryczny kadr.
Niepowtarzalna kolorystyka, ktora oddaje zimowy klimat tego miejsca.

Looks like you found someone here in red, faintly visible to the right... And a very impressive picture of this church. I like the symmetry here and the balanced composition. Helsingfors is indeed a very beautiful city.

Ciekawy budynek a fontanna przed nim dodaje uroku calej kompozycji. Podobaja mi sie tez usytuowane po bokach latarnie, ktore dodaja milego klimatu calosci.

black and white and in colour too, this works beautifully. The lines and effect here are both tantalising and intriguing. Perfectly composed and executed, with a wonderful contrast of elements and shades that is original and arty too! Like it a lot!

ever since I was a kid I wanted to see this cathedral above any other, there was always something about its design that captured my imagination. Its a beautiful place, and I think its black and white features standing in the snowy landscape is part of its magic. I have never actually seen inside its walls though, did you get any interior shots?
This is a very beautiful view of the place, the symmetry works beautifully well for a building like this.
Thanks as always

wow, you travel alot, and i'm very jealous :)
I know what you mean about traveling in the north during the winter...we went to Iceland in March!
Is Finland a new destination for you? I'll have to check on your gallery page to see.
Finland does interest me too.

looks cold, but then again you are near the arctic circle :)

Even that it looks like B&W it is not. Excellent photo with very well balanced colors. The view up to the famous cathedral is excellent and the symmetrical composition perfect. Well done.
