Photographer's Note
This month large parts of Europe have struggled on snowy weather causing problems with practically all kinds of transport. But snow can be fun too, at least if you are prepared. And I guess here in Finland we just have to.
Helsinki Cathedral (Helsingin Tuomiokirkko) was designed by Carl Ludvig Engel, like many other empire style buildings in the centre of Helsinki. It was built 1830-1852. Stairs had turned overnight to a steep slope with lots of fresh snow.
Happy New Year!

Hello Kari,
I visited this splendid church last summer. You chose a good POV to take this shot. A nice photo with a well managed framing and superb colors. Well done!

Hello Kari,
I really like this composition of the wall of snow just below the famous cathedral and the blue sky. The person enjoying himself in the snow, dressed in red and black and making funny movements, is a fine eye-catcher, so is the person standing on top of the slope, just in front of one of the white pillars. The light is excellently handled and the colours are fine.
Best regards,
Gert

Hi Kari,
Great shot, I love it, the location is perfect for a lovely scenery shot and composition, but the addition of the snow foreground and the kids playing in the snow adds the daily life quality and spirit of people dealing with the weather condition that they have.
I remember when I was young and it rains for days in my homeland, I would play in the rain running around in the puddples and it was so much fun.
Happy New Year.

Nice one Kari. If you cannot beat it, join it- nature I mean.Nice how the white building seems to emerge from the snow. The light is lovely and the sky not overpowering. Well done. A happy image with which to end 2010. All the best in 2011. Klaudio.

It's wonderful the way you split the pic's area and how he uses the snow optimally :)

Hello Kari,
I like the division in this frame between the beautiful cathedral, and the stairs covered in snow. The person sliding down the side seems to be having lots of fun. :-) Nice presentation of this scene, that is mostly dominated by white. A happy new year to you!

HI kari
Yes of all the countries in the world, you Finns should be prepared for weather like this. It looks like so much fun and you've captured and very fun and light-hearted moment. The monument in the background provides a great contrast and alot of interest. I want to see more of it.
Thanks for sharing and I wish you a very Happy New Year

Hello Kari. In your last two postings your timing is excellent. This one of particular note does reveal the lighter side of winter. We must keep these things in perspective when having to remain indoors when its blowing cold outside. The toppled posture really makes this photo. Thanks for sharing.

Hei Kari,
Yes, you are showing the bright side of having an excess of snow. A good composition and perspective, where the cathedral looks as impressive as ever.

Hello Kari,
I like the mood and the fun of this scene. Moreover you got a nice lightning and an overall glue-grey tones in the sky which contrast nicely with the subtle gold tone on the front.
Yves.
