Photographer’s Note
Two types of Finnish diesel locomotives on the railway line between Tampere and Pori on a darkening autumn afternoon.
Dv12 on the left is the most numerous diesel engine in Finland. 192 of them were built between 1963 and 1984 by Valmet and Lokomo factories. Despite their age the series is still in active use.
Dr12 on the right was a heavy six axle diesel engine class of Finnish Railways. They were also built in 1959-1963 by Valmet and Lokomo in Tampere. Engines were in regular service until 1990. Here it is on a special railfan trip.

Hi Kari,
The evolution of locomotives is something interesting. I see the slight exterior differences between the two engines here and they definitely look great side by side. Good colours and a good point of view. Thanks Kari :-)

Nice duo with good details despite early darkening, it's good you could get two coming towards you at the same time, and two different models is even better.
Have a nice day JY

Hi Kari.
Excellent "double" portrait. I like how you caught that lights and the atmosphere.
Well done!

Terve Kari,
Very attractive scene, two trains are coming side by side, moreover a driver of Dr12 is waving the hand to you in greeting. Nice composition making good use of reflections on the rails.

Hi Kari, I hope you were on another train taking this rather than standing so close to the tracks. In any event, it's an excellent if not dangerous POV. I like the striking red of both the trains and the curve of the tracks add interest. Well done, Lisa.

Hello Kari,
these locomotives seem to be moving right towards you! but I guess you stood far enough to be safe.
These two machines moving onto the viewer look dangerous, and this effect is very impressive! (this is the idea which I wanted to realize in the Moscow metro but so far I failed.)
I especially like their lights shining in the growing darkness :) And the POV is very good.
Best regards,
Elena

Hi Kari
Very intersting view, like one locomotive overtaking the other, like trucks on roads.
That's interesting that of "special railfan trip".

Kari,
what makes this image really work are that you got two locomotives at the same moment, both about to enter the curve, both with their lights on and both of different model. I hope you were you using your lens close to the 300mm range ... ;-)

Hei Kari,
You caught a perfect moment of Dv12 passing the standing Dr2. A good POV and composition with the curve of the rails. You have controlled the exposure excellently.

Hi Kari,
I see you are an aficionado of trains. That's a fascinating theme, and I wonder why I never explored it more seriously. You caught these "brothers" of slightly different ages very nicely. I wonder if the POV wasn't a bit dangerous, because you seem to be almost in the way of the one on the left. That POV is surley advantageous, but the subdued light, that enhances the presence of the electric lights that reflect on the rails, is also very important on the appeal of the photo.

José

Hello Kari,
interesting shot of these racing trains. Very good management of light and good sharpness. I can clearly see the wave of a hand in the leading train. I like the lights of the trains and the gleam on the tracks. Good photojob.
Best wishes,
Helmut
