Photographer’s Note
This was taken on an evening cruise near Jyvaskyla in Finland. The clouds created a really beautiful effect on these ever stretching lakes - this one connecting to another connecting to another and so on - one of the 187,888 lakes in Finland.
I really love this image - not only because of the image it conjures in my mind of my experience there - but because of the colours and expansive horizon. I can't help but thinking that I could have done better though so any suggestions would be really appreciated! Perhaps this would be one for a panoramic format, cutting down mainly on the upper sky for instance?
This is also the view that the people in this house had from their sauna - wish I had that view everyday!

This is fine as it is in my view Cora. I don't think a crop is necessary, not with those wonderful clouds.
I think you struck a pretty good balance in the lake to sky ratio, although maybe by using a longer focal length you could have gone in a bit closer on the far shore of the lake to make the most of the great light on the trees. But then you might have lost the impact of the large expanse of sky.
Its a tough one, did you shoot any alternative compositions?
Anyway, its a great shot, I like it.
Cheers,
Ben

....now I understand your title :)
Well the low, unusual clouds are what make this shot...fascinating;the sky and water mingles together here
Simple and beautiful
All the best

Hi Cora. Impressive shot, the sky is amazing and the reflection on the water very good. I think that the earth (a band so little) works run perfectly. I thin the shot don't need more, perhaps a little reduction noise in the clouds. Anyway, I've done a WS, cropping a little from the top and too from the bottom. I think the water is here less interesting than the sky. If you want a pano format, perhaps you like that I've though. I'm not sure at all, anyway. But I repeat: this shot is very very nice so, as it is. Thanks.
Angel.

I guess you are both playing with the sky in our last post. And for that same reason I think that you should NOT cut the upper sky to make it a panorama. If you want to crop it, do it ob the bottom part instead. But to be honest, I like it the way it is now. The compo is perfectly balanced and I wouldn't change a thing. Good light across the frame also and great warm colors. I just found the image to be a bit oversharpened. On these kind of photos, I usually apply the USM on a separate layer and then erase the sky till the contour of the hills (to get rid of the white halo caused by the sharpening method). It's just a small tip if you want to take it. A good photo anyway. Thanks

Hi Cora - I think this is a fine shot, the colours, composition & DOF all look good on my screen. Your choice of a low horizon makes the sky look huge, it's a great effect.
