Rockery beach Photo

Photographer’s Note

I had a pleasant walk in one of the last still warm autumn days at the end of September along Espoo seashore, this time not very far from the border of Helsinki. This view is from Karhusaari, which is a cape locating south from the motorway, which is leading from Helsinki to the west and to the border of the Kirkkonummi municipality. One could not guess from this photo that the motorway is just about 100 m behind my back here. Karhusaari has however nice paths for walking and biking and it has one culturally important building, so called Sinebrychoff Villa, which was built 1888-1892 and is now owned by Espoo city and it is used for cultural events, seminars, meetings and celebrations. In Karhusaari there also is a small and cosy swimming sand beach.
After the islands you see on the background there is open sea, the Gulf of Finland.

Wonderfully composed photograph which lets me compare it to my world... different rock color (ours is all slate), more sand, and different trees, but otherwise, I'd think I was in SE Alaska. It's nice to think of you out enjoying your world, Lasse. Thanks for this lovely view. I can feel the wind at my back. Judy

Hello Lasse,

a pleasant walk not only for you but also for us who watch this fine scenery. But not all perhaps have noticed the skill with which this composition is built: the trees, the rocks and the shore line creates a diagonal which divides exactely in two half the photogram. So the left half of the photo is very dense while the other half is very spacious: a good contrast. Furthermore to have the shoreline seen sideways it's like leading the eye to the distant horizon. There is a lovely summer atmosphere in the photo even if is already september, with bright and intense light and yet everything is clear and sharp. I like for instance those two big rocks in the foreground: one can appreciate their colors and textures and they help in enhancing the sense of depth.

This is a remarkably crisp and refreshing photo, just like the air must have been that day. fantastic sharpness and a very good light. And even without the assistance of "Longroute" I certainly observed the fine diagonal composition. It must have been a very enjoyable walk.

excellent depth of field, is possible to also appreciate well the horizon! I like a lot the beautiful warm light on the stones and the grass moved by the wind. A beautiful photo, bright and with a pleasant sharp, compliments!

Looks like summer still pleasantly remained here during the last days of September! Beautiful colours and a fine diagonal composition. Interesting note with the traffic link. Isn´t Sinebrycoff also a brewery?

This one I like very much because of its sunlit scenery - and this wideness. Your composition creates a good depth an the contrast of brown and blue here again is stunning. Let's sit down there - perhaps today with a thermos bottle of coffee - and chat a while ... ;-) A wonderful place!

A pleasant seaside location with the nice breeze in your hair, and the salty smell of the sea...
I guess the Baltic still smells salty, hehehe?

Wonderful scene and an excellent composition. Like many other I immediately noticed the diagonal line and how you make use of the elements. In particular the rocks in the foreground are attractive and well positioned. The photo is fore sure taken by a skilled photographer that knows well what is pleasing for the eye.
