Photographer’s Note
Airport of Helsinki-Malmi is the oldest working airport In Finland. It became operational in 1936 but official opening ceremony took place on 15 May 1938. Until the opening of the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport in 1952 it was the main airport of Helsinki and all Finland. Today, the airport is still actively used in general aviation.
Terminal building of Helsinki-Malmi was designed to be functional and it was built of concrete, steel and glass, which was popular at the time. A central hall rose the full height of the circular central building and light was admitted through rows of windows set high around the wall. Public service facilities were located on the ground floor around the central hall, including domestic airline offi ces with baggage and check-in departments, customs, post office and telegraph services.
The passenger waiting room was set a few steps higher and stairs led from the waiting room to the restaurant on the second floor.
The National Board of Antiquities has declared Malmi Airport a nationally important cultural environment which should be preserved as a functional whole.

Good morning Kari -
I opened this image and I immediately felt I was in a time warp. The B&W works wonders on this old terminal. Even though the people indicate the current date it still has that vintage feel to it. Technically it is a superb image with a good gradation of tones from black to white. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.
John
