Photographer’s Note

Hanko is the most southern town in Finland. It is known for it's wooden villas and beaches by the Baltic Sea. Two landmarks on the right are the lutheran church and the water tower.

Hanko gets lots of visitors especially on summertime, many of which arrive by boat. The town also has extensive tourism info pages.

Ho Kari,
I didn't know that Finland had it's own "Côte d'Azur" and I must admit that this picture really has a holiday feeling. The deep blue sky and sea and the empty sand beach are very attarctive, though I suppose that temperature wise it's much colder than the southern coast of France. Nice saturated colors.

Aaah yes the finnish riviera, a well kept secret in the world list of paradisiac summer destinations, it might surprise you but I have been enjoying it long ago and I went bathing in the sea as far north as Oulu, because the beach grade is not steep there the water warms quickly. It's a pleasant and luminous picture with a wise foreground inclusion, the reds are powerfull, Style wise I think the house on the left could well be on the US east coast as well.

Hi Kari
I love colourful wooden houses from this part of the world(I lived in a white one in Oslo for a year) and the church is really unusual. The rocky foreground gives depth and you've succeeded in making both the fore and backgrounds really sharp.

This is a very nice shot. I like the inclusion of the rocks in the foreground creating a nice angle with the beach. The lighting and colors are fine with nice sharpness and detail. You have also captured a great blue sky here.

Hi Kari,
Beautiful build up composition. The rocks, the water and the house with lighthouse and church are really good composed. Colours are bright and crisp, detail and sharpness is excellent....and that all from this little Canon.

Hi Kari,
That's funny, I wrote "sun, sand, sea, surf and Hollywood" in my reply to you before seeing the title of your picture. It could be also "sun, sand, sea, surf and lutheran church" :-)
I prefer your wooden villas instead of the Hollywood ones.
In your picture I like also to see that "triangle" of blue water.
