Photographer’s Note
Gulls, sometimes you love, sometimes hate them. There's certain beauty on those birds, but they'd better shut up and not steal your sandwich.
This backlight shot shows bone structure of those wings if you look closely.
Title Free Bird, a Lynyrd Skynyrd song from their debut album (pronounced 'lĕh-'nérd 'skin-'nérd), 1973.

Hello Kari, You know when I see sea gulls I think to my self no more pictures but I ca not help my self I must take one more & one more etc. they have a certain charm & attraction. This is a fine shot with excellent detail & very natural looking colour, not easy to capture in full flight like this, well done & congratulation.
Regards from a country you know very well.

Good morning kari
As I live on the coast I really love seagulls and this capture is really nice. Well framed and quite sharp in a square frame is really impressive.
Have a good day and TFS

Ciao Kari,
ho provato milioni di volte a scattare foto del genere, ma non ci sono mai riuscito.
E' troppo bello un uccello in volo, segno di libertà e serenità. Ottimo lavoro.

Hi Kari,
Ah the rats of the sky! When I was a sailor there was a rumor that if you fed one an alka-seltzer it would explode because of it's inability to break wind. Sounds like a sea story - I've never seen it happen, myself, and wouldn't think it polite to attempt, either.
Nicely composed image, simple yet effective. A great title borrowed from a great song. I saw them do that song live a few times, but most memorably as the backup band for The Who on their Quadrophenia tour in 1972. They didn't even turn the house lights down for Skynyrd, but everyone shut up and paid attention during Free Bird!
Have a wonderful day,

Hi Kari,
I came determined to re-vist Australia through your eyes but this wonderful gull lured me away. I have taken literally hundreds of gull photos and never achieved this quality. I love the way the light through the feathers illuminates the feathery detail and the way you got good sharpness through out. I usually get the eye or the feathers but not both.
I've added it my collection.

Hi Kari, I wondered how you could have captured such a clear shot with your usual ("our usual") 24-105mmm L lens but I see you have used the 75-300mm. I don't think I've seen many of your photos usung this lens. This would not be one of my favourite photos by you, but the contrasting whites and blues are very striking and I like the square framing. TFS, Lisa.

Hi Kari
Good shot, you managed to do. Catch a bird in flight is not easy. Good details
Well done
