Freezing lake Photo

Photographer’s Note

Today I want to show you again one photo of the small lake Myllyjärvi in Espoo, at the eastern edge of Nuuksio lake uplands. This photo was shot in the middle of December 2007. The lake had a thin ice cover. Coincidentally I met a man who had just returned from swimming in the lake, He had to hit a hole to the ice, which was though easy, as the ice was very thin. I was having problems in keeping my fingers warm when shooting a photo in that windy and chilly December weather and he had been swimming! Unfortunately I arrived a few minutes late to be able to take a photo of his swimming.
The light is very low the whole day just a few days before winter solstice and at 14:30 the sun was already almost hidden behind the trees of the other side of the lake. You can see the same lake shot from a rock not far from this point here. See the note of that photo. In WS is another shot from the same lake that day.

E' incredibile come lo stesso posto in un momento e mese diverso assuma tutto un'altro aspetto e colori. Ho rivisto l'altra foto che hai fatto in questo lago e notato la grande differenza... Qui hai ottenuto colori molto caldi che contrastano col ghiaccio del lago, un bellissimo effetto che mi ricorda le illustrazioni dei libri di fiabe nordiche. Mi piace molto l'atmosfera che si respira qui, e anche l'ottima definizione.

Hello Lasse,
this view looked very familiar to me even in the little thumbnail :) Very, very beautiful view, very good composition; lovely natural colours! the photo is filled with a game of shadows and light. (But it does not look like cold winter at all!)
Besides, this idea reminds me of the impressionist painters who painted the same landscapes several times at different time of the day :) Why not? This is a really good idea: Nature has its moods and they change... only many people do not attach any importance to this..

Almost a autumn picture in winter, real autumn colours between the pinetrees.
You play excellent with sun and shadows.

Another strong reminder of my childhood's forests and lakes in Värmland. I admire the good light and sharpness and the warm colours of most of your pictures. Without the title and your note I could almost have imagined this to be a late evening around Midsummer. Strange times.

Hello Lasse,
I find the endless beauty from Espoo with each posting from you! this frozen lake with the winter golden light makes it more attractive especially it created the light and shadows over the trees!

A very fine photo, also reminding me of Värmland. But my brother and I grew up quite a bit south of the so called "Finnish Forest" (I don´t think he ever visited this part either). But you may remember this picture I took there, some years ago.

But this is the original, no doubt!

Here the wonderful light emphasizes this beauty in a great way und you handled this play of sunlight and shadows very well. Voilà le genre de composition qui prête à la rêverie, à la flânerie, à la promenade en amoureux !
Le décor nous plonge dans un lieu magique. Malgré le froid à voir le lac gelé, nous pouvons nous projeter au printemps et découvrir le réveil de la nature.
Une très belle réalisation fort agréable à contempler.

Hello Lasse,

I like the way the trunks filter my view to the lake!
I notice the date and the lack of snow, it seems like the winter gets shorter by the year...
Fine light from the low sun, and the composition has a good feeling of depth!
