Photographer’s Note

During my alongshore walk in Espoo last week I also saw this winter transportation example. The shot is taken almost from the same spot as my first upload from that walk, the Freezing strait. The direction is only more towards east. The two dinghies had obviously been used in the previous days, a weekend, to carry people with their food and stuff to the small island, where they have their cottages. You can see on the right edge of this photo and on the left edge of the above mentioned photo a small darker slot in the ice, a crack, which they had hit with their paddles into the ice. In an ordinary cold and traditional Finnish winter, the strait would have a thick ice, which would easily carry a walking person. This year the ices are at least still weak. Well, somewhat better than last year, when sea was practically free of ices. You can see in the photo one of the cottages and in front of it a sauna/outbuilding.
