While looking for long lost members of my wife's family, we stumbled upon a very old and disused cemetery, hidden in the woods in the commune of Parikkala in the south Carelia province in eastern Finland.
This hidden and tranquil place is the most charming and romantic resting place beneath the old pine and birch trees. Many of the graves where in reasonable good shape, others where completely overgrown with fallen crosses or headstones. It radiates a calm and soothing mood.
And we did find some distant family members there, while more lie in the village of Tyriä just across the russian border

I love this! I am a big fan of cemetery photography at any time, but this place is so unique and unusual. Hidden below the treetops, the monuments stand out so well against the greenery, especially the large thick cross. The vivid purple flowers are a striking contrast to both the green and the dark shapes of the headstones. Beautiful work, one of the most beautiful cemetery images I have seen.
thanks as always

Not that I care a bit what happens to me after I'm gone, but I guess the idea of resting in a place like this is not so bad. It's a beautiful place where wild animals would probably keep the deceased company. Whenever I see this kind of forests from eastern Finland I automatically think of the novels by Väinö Linna, which all Finnish youth should read (maybe they do).

I really like the light on this one making the graveyard glow in green. There's nice variety of different stones and the flowers add their own charm.

A beautiful composition and capture, what a wonderful place to be laid to rest. And blossom, a lovely sign that summer is imminent leaves a pleasing feel combined with the tall trees watching over - very moving sight. Well seen and captured with great depth of field. Well done,

This is almost not to believe that a cemetery completely is overgrown with a few flowers and green grass.
I am glad that you took this image, I have something learned.
With all perfect details.
Excellent composition, nice presentation.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice Sunday,

Calm emanates from this place and it looks charming indeed, especially at this time of the year with the wonderful lupins and late spring greenery. The pines and birches firmly set the scene in a Nordic country. Interesting to read that there is family history connected to this post.

Good choice if a vertical format with excellent repetition of both the blue lupin flowers and the tombs and trees. Good sharpness and a nice warm vs cold color contrast between the yellow green grass and the blue tones. Tfs!

Seems so different from ours here. It may be abandoned but it's still very charming and peaceful. I like the composition with the crosses, tombs and blue flowers growing all around.

cemeteries are subjects that we don't get to see enough of on TE, so this is a welcome treat for sure.

this image here really does have the calming presence.

great composition of life overcoming death! A very simple situation which only few people would have taken notice of.

This was the area that was the main battlefield of the wars between Finland and the USSR in the 40ties. I always wanted to see the region. I had an uncle who participated as a volonteer on the Finnish side. I find your photo very well composed with a mild atmosphere and a beautiful light. The color pallette is quite amazing.
This is my 1st. visit to your gallry, but not the last.
All the best
