Canicule lapone, a photo from Lappi, North

Tout le monde a en tête les images en provenance de Laponie d'arbres pratiquement engloutis par la neige. Fin juillet, on en était bien loin et la température atteignait même les 26 degrés...

Quelques statistiques en provenance de wikipédia:
- moyenne annuelle des températures : +0,2 °C
- moyenne des précipitations : 535 mm
- neige au sol : 183 jours par an
- température minimum enregistrée : –47,5 °C
- température maximum enregistrée : +30,6 °C

Everyone has seen those pictures from Lapland of trees almost entirely covered with snow. A month ago, the situation was completely different and the temperature was even close to 26 degrees... celsius ;-)

Hi Chris,
I can not imagine this cover in snow. I don't want to :) It looks so nice and warm and cozy here. Love the simplicty of the whole composition. Pure and natural without any major distraction, the clouds formation are just pergect to adds some interest to the sky.

C'est un beau paysage sauvage , sans grand point fort . Mais le ciel fantastique fait la différence . Les couleurs sont magnifiques aussi .

Le pays du Père Noël comme on ne le voit pas souvent ! J'aime bien le cadrage qui laisse une belle place à ce ciel magnifique. Belle netteté également.

C'est simple et beau!
Les contrastes entre couleurs (vert, bleu et blanc), le pdv choisi, la compo où le ciel ressorte superbement, la gestion de la lumière et le niveau de la netteté sont excellents!

Tu n'étais pas loin du record de température maximale! pas de neige mais cela ne t'a pas empêché de réaliser une splendide photo avec un ciel fantastique que tu as exploité au mieux dans ta composition.

Quel ciel! Je trouve d'ailleurs que c'est le véritable sujet de cette photo. Mais il n'existerais pas sans le bout de sol et forêt.
Ici, j'aurais plutôt vu un cadrage commençant au niveau du lac, sans la bande de terrain du premier plan, mais cela sent bien la bonne grosse tourbière où l'on peut s'enfoncer jusqu'au genou.

voila qui change du Rovaniemi que je connais...(fin decembre à -27°;-))
un ciel que j'aime beaucoup, de discrets reflets dans le lac...c'est une canicule que j'aime bien celle-là!!!
tu as fait un grand periple? (les photos n'arrivent pas assez vite!!)

in the canicule it's rather difficult to imagine this place covered in snow. The landscape is very pretty and the dynamic sky adds a nice touch to it. Great colours and light management.

This shows definitelly the perfect sky over a typical Lapland landscape. Very nice natural colours and contrast with excellent sharpness. How did you manage to avoid the Mossies getting part of the Picture?

Answer about your question (very good question):

I have several (ND/ND-grads filters in my bag,
including
a 105mm polarizer (which is nice heavy).
I deliberately not use the polarizing filter,
because the picture would become too busy,
especially in the foreground.
So that the reason that foreground becomes a bit lighter.
(In the background you can also see the reflection
of the mountain being equal to the mountain itself).
This experience I've done a few years ago and I did many
discarded photographs, because I had used a polarizing filter.
I also tried a lighter ND-grad filter, but that
didn't work (no details in the sky).
