Photographer’s Note
Downtown Tornio City in Finnish Lapland the river Torniojoki is reaching its freezing-point at the landing stage. As the river gradually gets ice-covered one will keep the water in circulation at the same time to make an hole in the ice for the winter bathers.
The shot is slightely postprocessed with some more sharpness, some less light and a little bit more contrast, not much, just some kind of touch-up.

A very interesting note and topic. However for some reason I am not convinced with the composition. It's almost as if we are missing a bit of everything, and yet there is a bit too much of everything.
The ice hole in itself is cut, which might not be that bad of a thing, but then there are all the other elements coming into the picture which rob from its spotlight. So we are left feeling that we are seeing a lot but still not enough of one single thing.
If you wanted to keep the buildings and the blocks of something on the left in the picture, you might have wanted to take a good number of steps to the right to have the icehole in the FG and then the rest in the BG, while the sun set would have been moved from the center to the far right of the picture. Of course I don't know what it is like where you took the picture so it might be completely impossible.
The colors of the ice are wonderful and the overall feeling in the picture is wonderfuly true to Finland. In those terms this picture is a success :D
In any case, Thank You for sharing :)
Kind regards,
Julia
