Photographer’s Note
One cold winter morning while driving my car i saw those strangely coloured clouds and i just had to snap a picture of it.
Edit: did some cropping to the image as sugested, it does have better effect now w/o large empty areas.

I think you cropped to much from the bottom. But this is still better than the original.
My guess is it is frozen icecrystals refelcting the sun... So some kind of aurora?

Great capture! This cloud is a Polar stratosferic cloud, that can be observed in regions near the poles. This is not common at all. More info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polar_stratospheric_cloud
