Winter northern noon Photo

Photographer’s Note

Kemi is famous as a tourist attraction in winter for the icebreaker ship "Sampo", used for tours on the frozen sea. You can also try a dive into the sea, the ship creates a hole in the ice, then you are equipped with a space-like suit and you can have a bath in the sea. I tried it and it's not cold at all! I'll put a photo of this experience as a workshop.

The day-long excursion is quite expensive but I think it's really worth it especially on a sunny day like we luckily had. Well, at that time of the year you don't see much sun, sunrise was at 10.30 and sunset around 2 pm (see my other photo). This photo was taken at 12.15, so I guess it was the highest point the sun touched on that day!!

Ciao Sabrina,

Sunset and horizon are very different. Ice pieces on sea and reflections are stunning with splendid colors. Your trip must be pleasure for you. I can not imagine take a bath in north pole while single weather here, only tropical summer with average of 28 degree Celsius (82 Fahrenheit) inside of house at night. Salute. Congratulations.

Wonderful light and seeing the snowfields which create an enormous depth to the landscape. I look likes this goed on forever.
