I found it quite strange. The weather was rather bad, the sky was overcast the whole day, but of course I made photos, had no choice. And then in the evening it was quite nice blue hour. I was rather surprised. These are the domes of the Aleksander Nevski orthodox cathedral. I have read that Estonians didn't like this as a symbol of a Russian domination, but it stands still there and the tourists like it.
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is an orthodox cathedral in the Tallinn Old Town, Estonia. It was built to a design by Mikhail Preobrazhensky in a typical Russian Revival style between 1894 and 1900, during the period when the country was part of the Russian Empire. The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral is Tallinn's largest and grandest orthodox cupola cathedral. It is dedicated to Saint Alexander Nevsky who in 1242 won the Battle of the Ice on Lake Peipus, in the territorial waters of present-day Estonia.
The Alexander Nevsky Cathedral crowns the hill of Toompea which is one of several places where according to legend the Estonian folk hero Kalevipoeg's father Kalev is said to have been buried. The cathedral was built during the period of late 19th century Russification and was so disliked by many Estonians as a symbol of oppression that the Estonian authorities scheduled the cathedral for demolition in 1924, but the decision was never implemented due to lack of funds and the building's massive construction. As the USSR was officially non-religious, many churches including this cathedral were left to decline. The church has been meticulously restored since Estonia regained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991.

ottima scelta sia come soggetto che come contrasto di colori per questa ora blu di particolare efficacia.
Mi piace molto la composizione ed appare anche notevole la nitidezza grazie anche ad una perfetta gestione della luce.
Bravissima. I miei complimenti.
Ciao e buona serata

As soon as I saw this, I thought it would be your post :) Such beautiful blue hour timing, and to have this selection of magnificent architecture and golden light set against it results in a stunning shot. I love how you have composed the various crosses in the frame too, a really optimal view! Beautiful shot.

vedo che anche a Tallin le costruzioni hanno le impalcature come in tutto il resto del mondo....
L'architettura è molto bella ed elegante e la tua ripresa è di eccellente fattura grazie anche alla splendida ora blu.

Not that you needed it, but you endeared yourself to every photographer in the world with "but of course I made photos, had no choice." :) One of the best lines I've ever come across in a note! That alone gets the smiley. haha
I absolutely love these colors, the reddish glow from the artificial lights set against the blue hour sky is superb! And if that's not enough, the tight framing highlights the shapes of the domes and strong architectural style of the cathedral. You've made the best out of the minimal weather condition, this looks great! Enjoy the weekend ahead. Travel safe.

Lovely blue hour shot! Well composed. Indeed, you showed the beauty of this magnificent architecture. I particularly love the lights reflected on the structure as well as those coming from the inside. Nice work.

A beautiful picture, concentrating on only the essential parts of this impressive building. The golden colours of the illuminated parts are excellent against the deep blue sky. The way you have composed this picture is also very good.

Ahh and so the tripod was present here? Or maybe not, I can't be sure. All I know is that the image is super sharp and the light is well regulated. Beautiful blue tones and golden light. I like the upward POV and despite the Estonians not liking it (for understandable reasons) it really is a beautiful edifice.
Well done and happy weekend

Fantastic warm cold color contrasts between the late evening blue sky and the golden illumination of the cathedral. Good sharpness and a fine upward pov. Well framed and composed. Good shadow detail too. Tfs!

Wonderful strong colour contrasts.
The orange illumination shows the cathedral in lovely warm tones.
You have read somewhere that Estonians don't like this cathedral. I didn't realize it before I went to Tallinn. When visiting this cathedral, an older man came to me and asked me why I took pictures of it. My answer was that I found it a beautiful cathedral with all the domes and that we don't have that architectural style in my country. Then he said very cranky that I could better go and take pictures of the real monuments in downtown Tallinn. Well, I guess that I hadn't thought very well of the local sensitivities.
Another very nice experience: On an evening we went to a bar/restaurant with lots of atmosphere and karaoke entertainment. We ended up at a table together with Estonian and Russian Estonians who could find it very well together.
Best regards, Paul

I continue to explore my unseen world (a very large portion of it) through your eyes. Also I am happy with your success with the blue hour...with the artificial lights creating a fine contrast. The architecture is beautiful...Lovely work!

piekna budowla i bardzo ladnie zaprezentowana. Ciemno niebieskie niebo dobrze kontrastuje z cieplo oswietlonymi kopulami cerkwi. Bardzo dobra ostrosc i ciasny kadr pozwalaja na podziwianie detali tego ciekawego budynku. Dobrze ze jeszcze tam stoi pomimo niecheci Estonczykow :-)

I think the blue hour is the best time to take pictures as demonstrated by the capture of those domes with warm golden lights against the darkening blue sky. Good pov and nice details. Well done, tfs.
