This is the President's Palace in Tallinn, Estonia, built in 1938. It is located in a large public park called Kadriorg a short distance east of the city centre. The main attractions of the park are two art museums.
I was a bit unsure whether I could enter the courtyard immediately in front of the palace (had this been Africa I could have got arrested for even looking at the palace), but when nobody stopped this group of bicycle tourists I quickly followed them.
It doesn't matter that I didn't include the entire flagpole, because they didn't fly the blue, black and white flag, meaning the President was not in the country that day.
I will add a workshop showing the palace from another angle.

une intéressante photo de ce palais de président, l'animation des cyclistes est agréable et bien captée avec la présence des deux gardes devant la porte.

From some time on, bikes are everywhere , they are part of the landscape ,like the contrast between them (the informal cyclists ) and the serious strait guardians

Excellent composition, and especially the foreground subjects boosting the effect to the whole image and make it a very pleasant view. The brilliant light and rich colours are so much better with the sun rays playing along and I feel as if that the shadowed 'arrow' is pointing, and inviting viewers into the prominent building. A fine shot and great effort and thks for sharing.

interesting comment about what would happen if you were in Africa while you did the same thing...really? thats harsh don't ya think??
kinda funny to see all the bikers huddled around, but i suppose they made you feel more safe too and assured.
cool shot...looking forward to whats coming up next from your recent travels.

Hello dear Gert,
welcome back! You seem to have enjoyed beautiful spring weather in Talin. The light and the colours of this picture are gorgeous. I like very much the way this elegant, pastel coloured facade runs across the frame and perishes behind the tree and its shade. The cyclists fill the foreground and the scene with interest and vividness and we feel as part of their group. Some of them look a bit stiff, maybe disappointed the president wasn't there:) Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

You're capturing well this placeby a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see simple and two-story the President's Palace. It's interesting in pink wall, green roof and many windows. It appears the relation between the common people as close to putting easy to courtyard. And, you notice well the fact of "The President was not present" because the national flag is not hoisted.

Welcome back ! I seem to like this image for its depiction of so many tourists in front of the palace. The palace may be a modest one and may not possess a touch of royal looks, but still has a lot importance in the minds of the people.I love the simplicity of your composition.Excellent composition, good presentation too. Very well done, TFS.

The small countries have very modest president palaces. It looks like a building of school, for example. Very interesting and some amazing note. TFS! Good report.
And some of your Greek colleges are worry and don't happy latest days.
Greetings from Corfu! (first time in my life I write to your from this island! )))

It is sometimes difficult to follow the right protocol when in unfamiliar regions. You were right to go with the group ... in all innocence.
Although I can understand your reasoning behind posting this shot, I actually prefer the w/s, which seems to have the quietness and respect, that I would associate with such a building. Also, I like the angled view. Both shots are sharp with good colour saturation.
My warm regards,
tyro (21046) 2013-06-13 14:13
A fascinating note and one which I found even more fascinating after I read your discussion with Craig (macjake) regarding the perils of being seen to take too much interest in presidential buildings or, indeed, presidents themselves in Africa. A very worrying situation.
But this is a splendid photograph of this very attractive building, as also is your workshop picture with the two young gardeners tending the plants around the palace's entrance.
And this picture also benefits from a foreground full of human interest - a colourful foreground in which I see that one cyclist has dismounted and, like yourself, also appears to be taking a photograph of the palace entrance and its two guardsmen.
Fine composition, lovely light and colours and exquisite details and sharpness in both pictures.
dkmurphys (50540) 2013-06-13 23:41
Nice colors and a fine relaxing mood in front of that building. I like it, well seen.
Have a fine weekend.

Trevligt men lite konstigt rosa färg för presidentpalatset. Ser vacker med ett grönt tak och är inte stor.
Intressant det du skriver i not. I Polen kan inte du komma in i gården utan tillstånd. Men jag tror i Kiev fanns ingen courtyard alls och du kunde komma ganska nära. Alo i La Paz är det bara på gatan.
Soldaterna ser ut i Polen.
Bravo!
Ciao e buon fine settimana

This is what I call candid action shot. Nobody there to stop from exploring, so you did the right thing shot as much as possible, as such pictures can be used to illustrate features. Good to have the bicycle group in the FG, that adds life to the shot. Well done.

Hello Gert. Title, photo and text complement each other perfectly. The palaces of the President are interesting - anywhere in the world. Representation is everything. The cyclists enliven the scene perfectly.
agjika (3616) 2013-06-16 3:30
Looks very civilised and accessible even though the toursits are keeping some unexplainable distance. If it was me I would have probable gon to the steps to take a photo!
Great sharpness and colours.
mkamionka (31395) 2013-06-16 3:52
lovely presentation from this underrepresented country on TrekEarth. You have a wonderful weather which resulted in beautiful vivid colors. The palace is very charming and the bikers add also a nice touch making the foreground more alive and interesting. I like the shadows of the flags which seem to point towards the entrance.
Very well done,

Beautiful palace, curious scene.
Nice colorful scene with this group of cyclists.
Wonderful architecture at the back.
I like this composition.
Angshu (56260) 2013-06-24 5:25
Nice title to the picture which sums up your story! The pink facade is quite nice and contrasts well with the plarised blue sky. We can see the coat of arms in the centre of the balcony. The WS post is nice as well!
jacquest (18841) 2013-06-24 11:13
This is a good view of the palace. The blue sky is no stranger to the quality of the image. The cyclists make a good distraction for the two guards with not much to do. Light, colors and sharpness make an image of great quality and pleasant to look at.
