Beautiful Tallinn was snow covered during my visit the weekend before last. In this northern city the sun never rises high in the winter and there are long shadows throughout the day.
The Alexandr Nevsky Cathedral was built in the 19th century to a Russian Orthodox design. It's colours are rich in the low sunlight.
This is the first posting I've taken with my NEW TOY. I've just acquired a Nikon D200 and it's wonderful. Somehow the images seem smoother, sharper and with better colour balance than my old D70. It's amazing how last year's new toy can so quickly seem out of date...

Excellent natural framing by the trees! Colours & sharpness are good, but may be improved by some PP work - see my workshop. A good informative image. TFS.

Good allover shot and well framed of this colorful church. It looks a bit like its brother with the same name in Sofia. No real old church, but nice anyway.
thanks and regards, Gerrit

Hi Jonathan, Congratulations to you new D200. I do see the clear color and light contrast in this image. I think I will be still holding my D70 for a while before I have an excuse to upgrade it.
Nice shot. I admire the nice quality you managed to get in this picture.

Lovely capture of this cathedral. I like the framing of the trees as well as the long shadows. Great POV as well, good work indeed!

Very nice point of view and wonderful sharpness. Colours and lighting are superb. The two big trees framed the picture very well. Splendid and crisp work!

Thanks for the test shot, Jonathan! I've been waiting for mine since end of December 05! They (adorama dot com) can't even tell me when they'll receive them :( what a bummer :( anyways..
colors, sharpness and image quality are A+! nice photo!

Congratulations on the D200! I'm definitely getting one, probably in another couple of months, when the demand has died down a little and I can actually try one out before I buy. Until then, I'll be very jealous! This is a wonderful example of the Russian Orthodox style, a little more classical and not quite as golden as some that I saw in Russia and Kiev. Have fun with the new toy!

Congratulations for your new toy. I'm thinking of buying one for my self as well...
Very nice enquadrement of this fine example of the orthodox architecture style, with the shadows in foreground pointing to it. Beautiful colours and lighting. I guess these winter conditions are wonderful for nice captures.

You can't believe how much trouble I've been having getting hold of a D200. All sold out. Where did you get yours? I'll have to get one in the next week or so now. I'm convinced.
Like your effort with your new toy. Good colours, exposure and sharpness. Well done.

Hi Jonathan - still travelling I see, snowy Estonia must feel like a climate shock after Sri Lanka, I really like the long shadows here, beautiful light.

Beautiful lines, graphics and shadows characterize this marvellous shot. The snow in the foreground enhances and you have really captured this magnificent cathedral in its full glory. The framing with the large trees and generous foreground is nicely done. Very fine work, Jonathan.

congrats to your new camera!! I am very curious about it. Is it really free of noise?!
This looks rather good, but I will watch your photos very carefully in the future:)
The view is very good. I know I had problems here to get a detailed shot from close range, but you have succeeded very well and included the trees in a superb way. Colour balance looks excellent indeed. Well done!

Great to see the results of your new D200, Jonathan - I am still saving! Lovely clear but natural colours, contrast and sharpness. The light is wonderful and it is good to see that you have avoided making your own shadow too obvious in the photograph (always a problem when shooting in lighting conditions like this). Cheers . . . David

Beautiful architecture! Nice POV! But you presented us special lights, creating wonderful shadows! Good work!
All the best!

Jonathan i decided to hunt down your first D200 posting. I have to agree with you about smooth yet detailed resolutino. This is excellent work for the first posting. Thanks for sharing and I hope the D200 never wears off like the D70!
