A tourist taking a picture of the lower part of the Old town of Tallinn, Estonia, from the Toompea Hill in the city centre. The church is called Oleviste Kirik and is dedicated to the Norwegian King Olav II (995–1030, also known as Saint Olav). It was originally built in the 12th century, rebuilt about two hundred years later and got its present tower in about 1500 AD. For some decades in the late 16th century it was supposed to be the world's tallest building after a storm had destroyed the central spire of Lincoln Cathedral in England in 1549.
When the husband of the woman taking that picture discovered me, he quickly asked her to move aside to give me an undisturbed view. That was of course a very nice gesture, but they didn't know that I was mainly interested in using her yellow pack as a foreground for my own picture.

un point de vue intéressant et bonne insertion du touriste dans le cadre, ça crée une ouverture sur la ville.

Hi Gert..well composed tall framing..good clarity and color...liked your POV.

Hello Gert. The view of the old town from here is in my memory. The view is over the houses, churches and even the more modern building, - to the sea.
The people were very attentive and went to the side. Of course, the boy with the yellow backpack in the foreground a good idea. Interesting that you have selected the upright image format. But surely you have captured with your camera from here also images in the horizontal format.
Informative text as always.

It's an excellent place to look at the old town of Tallinn. You captured little photographer's viewpoint well. Yellow backpack adds good colour variation. I also like those fresh spring leaves.

Hi Gert, haha, the husband of a woman wanted to be kind but he didn't know your interest:) For you the photo without this yellow backpack would be much less attractive. Nice view of Tallin red roofs and the church dominating the area.

the yellow backpack is eye-catching indeed and makes your picture special and unique -and very playful too, as you've created fascinating competition to the main focal point of your composition. I love how, starting from the ledge in the foreground, one element leads elegantly to the other, our interest is distributed delightfully around the frame, clarity is excellent, the colours beautiful and the yellow backpack mysteriously integrated and not distracting at all. The view is wonderful and the light is fantastic. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely week,

a nice composition here with the nice architecture at background with the nice yellow pack at foreground. Nice depth achieved by the pack. Great sharpness and clarity. The composition is a little tight at the left, though I like it a lot. Superb one. Tfs.

I understand completely how you felt about the well-intended attempt to remove the wife from the shot! This happens to me a lot, as I try to create an interest in the foreground of a photo. In this case, of course that yellow pack makes a great highlight, and the tree does a great job of framing her before the eye is drawn to the church. Excellent composition and fine exposure.

Ciao e buona serata

Summer has it's compensations, with the passing of winter to give us good photo opportunities. That's a great way to do this, having her on the left bottom frame adds so much extra value while we have a clear view of the city skyline. Ultimately she is there to give us a good balance and depth, the perceived foreground that seals it. Great shot, Congrats

Hello Gert - Sometimes random people in shots are a nuisance but here you have used the tourist to set the context and narrative of the shot. I like the vertical format, it works well with the lead in line created by the wall and the vertical push of the towers and spires in the old town. The fringe of green leaves completes the composition filling in the area of uninteresting sky. Good work. Warm regards rosemary
macjake (45588) 2013-08-20 4:25
with this composition, i feel as if I am the husband of the lady, as i'm peering over her shoulder.
This is only a small snap-shot of the city, but it has a real story-book-fairy-tale look to it doesn't it?
and it always amazes me to see modern satelite dishes in these centuries old architecture builds.
and its a bit odd to see the smoke stake to the left of the elegant church tower.
but nice shot for sure.
see you around, and if you happen to come across any abandoned cars/trucks take a shot! :)
kato (9532) 2013-08-23 0:41
You're capturing well this scene by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's interesting and impressive to see the old town of Talinn. We can view the church with tall spire, crowded houses with red roof and Baltic Sea in the distance. And, her yellow pack is harmonized well eith town and the green leaf which hangs down from a tree in the point of entire color balance as you intended.
Angshu (52890) 2013-08-26 22:37
The yellow backpack does throw an 'interesting aspect' into the picture, its bright colour attracting our attention straight away. In the BG the church and the other buildings girdled by the hanging branch of the tree works well
Urs (14078) 2013-08-28 8:02
Good framing and with the person in the FG your photograph has a tremendous DOF. I would call it a picture of the picture. Superb town portrait
mkamionka (27073) 2013-09-14 13:46
may be he was jealous that you photographed his wife and that is why he asked her to move away? :)
In any case this is a great composition and having a photographer taking a photo makes always a great foreground. The view behind is very pretty and charming.
tatadalou (3975) 2013-10-28 20:08
The photographer forms an excellent foreground for the picture. It would have been a loss if she had quit her place. That's a nice point of view on the city, an excellent point of observation. The colours of the town are excellent, with beautiful green that mavellously complete the red nuances of the roofs.
