If you want to include some persons in the foreground of a photo but can't find any, dummies will do just as well.
I saw these wooden white persons just outside the medieval city wall (mainly 14th century) encircling the Old town of Tallinn, Estonia. They were part of some exhibition. I think it had something to do with gardening, as far as I remember.
It was evening, the sun was low and the conditions were not the best from this angle. I will show a photo from the other side as a workshop, mainly so you can see more of the magnificent city wall. The light was better from that side, but I prefer this composition.

Uno scatto insolito e nello stesso tempo piacevole.
Ciao e buona serata

a very strange installation which interferes with a scenery and intrigues the viewer; the white figures look like ghosts a little. The picture has excellent perspective and sharpness and the setting is interesting, lovely and atmospheric. I keep trying to guess the significance of the figures and look between and around them to get a clearer idea of this place. The colours and textures are great and I prefer the capricious lighting of this picture. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely month,

An interesting note about the extensive and wonderful walls of this ancient city which,as you say, are perhaps best represneted in your workshop picture because of the more favourable light.
But this picture is a fascinating one too - just a little quirky with the inclusion of these strange white cut-outs of people. Curiously, although you thought that this was perhaps to celebrate some gardening event, these "people" look to me to be more like business people attending a conference, what with their formal attire and one carrying a briefcase.
A fascinating picture, a little different from the usual, and, like your workshop one, well taken and composed and with perfect exposure, fine colours and sharpness.

There's a television ad on right now around here, Gert, that this reminds me of - an ad for a design school, where everything that was created by a graphic designer in every scene has been blanked out like the silhouettes in this one. It has a similarly disconcerting effect, like pieces of the world are missing. I like your composition here against the great city walls, especially with the figure in FG in such a characteristic pose. Nicely arranged and shot.

This is an interesting gnomes, so it's impressive to see the unique gnomes standing on the garden of the outside of the city wall. It seems to an interesting idea, and is interesting in various pose of man and woman. And, it's impressive in old buildings with a conical red roof and strong stone wall in medieval times.

Awesome capture of this creatively designed garden. The use of metal figures seems to be catching on, we are beginning to have them in Las Vegas. Good pov and dof with nice details. Well done, tfs.

An unusual and interesting image of this much photographed location. It was a great idea to include the "artificial people" and I like the way you composed the shot. The figure in the foreground seems to be exclaiming: "oh look at this beautiful castle".

You had me on this one first. I was sure you have been cutting out some real persons at firs. Those modern shapes give the old city walls of Tallin quite some character.
I love the city of Tallin as well, it is well worth a visit.

I think "dummies" might also include the clueless people who will walk right in front of you while taking a picture, either completely oblivious to your actions or simply don't care...I'm sure we've all experienced that in our photo's! :) I've always enjoyed silhouettes, and this is a new twist on that effect by virtue of the color. I like how you've put this together, having one boldly up front, but not overbearing, while using the others as a guide into the frame. Smart use of the elements to create something a bit unusual, which has made for a pleasant scene. Thanks for sharing the view. Have a great day ahead.
All the best,

De här konstverken skapar onekligen en lustig effekt i bilden, som om de är bortklippta. Måhända finns de inklistrade i någon annan bild... Också intressanta byggnader i bakgrunden.

Good strong composition with the receding old city wall and here you have used the dummies to heighten the scene and really pop up in the settings. Excellent display of colours in particular the appealing green combination soothingly liven the garden against the lighting. This is a different scene altogether and creative! Fine works, Congrats. TFS

You're halarious, even when you cant capture real human beings you will find fake humans :)
You just can't get away can you?!
certainly a different and unique way to show the city walls and architecture - you know - the subjects that really matter!
enjoy your day,
...from the Photo Junkie! :)

Hi Gert, I wouldn't call them garden gnomes. have you garden gnomes in Sweden? I love them, specially when they are not gnomes anymore :)). Funny figures. Original idea.
Nice view of the walls of Tallinn. Your favourite in Baltic countries was Vilnius, I liked Tallinn with all these walls and towers. I like Workshot photo very much.
bayno (18344) 2013-07-04 4:21
This time do not agree with you, I would have posted as the main photo of the WS, it's just a matter of taste of course, we can see much better the city walls and two fabulous ramparts, also as you say the light is much better, good job as always...
Tigerlily (3301) 2013-07-05 9:49
Yes, I like the composition as well,Gert. I thought that you'd photoshopped it from thumbnail...
jemaflor (89405) 2013-07-11 4:00
Original these virtual people in the garden, well composed with one placed in the Fg, interesting view.
KristinsCamera (2373) 2013-08-14 20:49
hello gert ~
these cut-outs are almost a bit creepy, as if they are representing people who used to be there, but have died or otherwise moved on, leaving just an black space in their absence...
that aside, it is a fun shot ~ almost as if you've removed or cut out people shaped spaces in your photograph, just to mess with us :)
mjw364 (2) 2013-08-28 15:10
humourous title and interesting shot - some people might spend hours in photoshop to create this effect!
Great image! Love it.
NorthernLight (2383) 2013-11-09 8:25

wow, a different kind of composition here. Love how you framed it with a good angle. Great light and sharp details. A very good one indeed.
