I can't help sending in this picture. I often take a good look at bathrooms when I travel because, I think bathrooms often say a lot about a place. Ironically, I found this toilet before even leaving home.
I was visiting a clinic to get travel vaccinations when I asked to use the toilet, and this was what I found. The clinic lies in a semi-subterranean level of an older building in central Copenhagen. This part of Copenhagen has been built up over what once was a marsh, and still lies extremely close to sea level. The stair way to the "thrown" is there because that is the only way to get the toilet to flush. A pump would have to be used otherwise, because the level of the ground water is above the first step of the stairway.
Those who operate the clinic say that within the next year they will have to modernize, get a pump for the toilet, and get rid of the stairs. So enjoy it while you can! |
