Nyhavn ("New Harbour") is a popular area in Copenhagen, Denmark with both locals and tourists. The street is lined with many small bars and restaurants facing out to a picturesque harbour.
It is the starting point for various canal tour excursions, and is located near Kongens Nytorv, at one end of Strřget, and near the start of Langelinie, which leads to Amalienborg Palace.
Nyhavn was built by King Christian V, and it once had a bad reputation on account of the concentration of sailors living in the neighborhood.
Danish author Hans Christian Andersen lived in Nyhavn for some years.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen was a trading and fishing center by the early 11th cent. It was fortified (1167) by Archbishop Absalon and was chartered (1254) by the bishop of Roskilde. The city was twice destroyed by the Hanseatic League but successfully resisted (1428) a third attack. Copenhagen replaced Roskilde as the Danish capital in 1443. The city exacted tolls from all ships passing through the Řresund until 1857. Having resisted (1658–59) a Swedish siege, Copenhagen was relieved by the Dutch. In 1660 peace between Denmark and Sweden was negotiated there. The city had expanded considerably in the 16th and 17th cent. as its trade grew, and it continued to develop in the 18th cent. as industries such as textile making and tobacco processing brought added prosperity.
Copenhagen became involved in the war between Napoleonic France and England in the early 19th cent. The news that Denmark, by a secret convention, was about to join Napoleon's Continental System and to join in the war on England led the British government to decide to send an expeditionary force to seize the Danish fleet, which already had been mauled (1801) in the battle of Copenhagen. When the Danes refused to surrender, the British landed troops in 1807 and severely damaged Copenhagen by bombarding it.
The city recovered quickly after the Napoleonic Wars, and its industrial base grew rapidly in the 19th cent. In World War II, Copenhagen was occupied (1940–45) by the Germans, and its shipyards were bombed by the Allies. The city itself was only slightly damaged, and it retained the charm and design that had resulted in its being called “the Paris of the North.”

Hi George!

Very beautiful shot with wonderful brught houses!

Hi George.
What a crowded scene! You have captured it beautifully in great Summer light. The moving boat so full of people just fits into the picture but provides a great sense of movement. The crowded shore looks great with those marvellous coloured buildings behind all the people, and you have captured it at a gentle but decisive angle. Delightful photo.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi George,
I like this colourful picture! Very clear exhibition! I suppose that these long boats are made for excursions carrying so many people! The power of the money!
The most important is the architecture and the bright colours. Thanks for sharing and communicating.

Athanasios.

Hello George,

Nice light, beautiful contrasting colors. I really like the photo. Surprisingly the new Harbour looks similar to another harbour too far away from Denmark though, but it has something in common between the two.

The Harbour I am talking about is in Hobart, Tasmania Here.

Princess Mary of Denmark is fom Hobart in Tasmanis, Australia.

Szia Gyuri,
Nyhavn-nak köszönhetem, hogy a TE-re találtam. Képeket kerestem róla, mert ide szerettem volna látogatni néhány évvel ezelőtt. Csodálatos a képed ezekkel a színes sorházakkal, míg ami egy kicsit ijesztő az a tömeg a hajókon és a parton egyaránt. Mindenesetre így is kítűnő kedvcsinálónak. Gratulálok és kellemes hétvégét kívánok.
Attila
