A much used point of view when aboard a tall ship: a picture taken from the bowspruit. This is more or less the only way to get an idea of the full ship when remaining on board. The effect is very depending on the width of objective and, for once, of the stability of the ship. You can have a good position sitting directly on the bowspruit with one leg on each side (but beware of the stays which often block the sight). In this particular case, my fellow trainee is sitting on one of the reinforcing bars, which make a stronger steat than directly in the net. And the sea is just below her, which gives the title.

Hello Emmanuel,
Fine demo of the point you make about photography aboard ship. Your model is of great help here. I like the red's contrast and the composition supplied by your precarious position. Regards,
Hakan

Hello Emmanual,
This 1991 seafaring trek of yours was a fantastic journey for you and I have really enjoyed it! Your level of technical competence for consistently taking excellent photos with the difficult lighting, and challenging conditions in general, is most impressive (especially considering the fact that you were using film at the time). This great series of yours somewhat resembles a contemporary Homer's "Odyssey" epic. No monsters, Gods and giant sea creatures but still a marvelous adventure. The trainee looking at you was the perfect gesture to seal this excellent photograph. Great job!
Stan

Bonjour Emmanuel,
I guess it must be great to sit there and see the waves directly below you. Excellent POV, the bowspruit leads the eye well to the ship. There is a lot to see and discover. Good inclusion of your fellow trainee too. Thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Lars

Hello Emmanuel,

A superb action shot that could be a training photograph. The gaze by your fellow trainee, I have a feeling, means "Forget the camera, and come and help!" Well done, in this photograph from 1991, scanned perfectly.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Emmanuel,
An interesting point of view!
Also documenting the awesome collection of ropes, sails and other details that a sailor has to take control over...
I notice the double security with rope and net, so I guess it is seldom someone actually falls over borad..!
Greetings,
Pablo

Hi Emmanuel,
How are you my friend....good to see you.A great perspective looking down the ship. All that tangle of ropes makes me wonder......how do you manage to control it all? looks like you had a dodgy position as well as your fellow shipmate.Take care and TFS.
Regards, David

Hi Emmanuel, A great action photo, although it looks very safe, I will still say rather him than me, as always very sharp focus &, excellent light, the detail is just superb &, TFS, kind regards Wilson.
