Frederik's church , popularly known as The Marble Church was designed by the architect Nicolai Eigtved in 1740 and was along with the rest of "Frederiksstad" (an old district in Copenhagen)intended to be a monument to the 300 jubilee of the first crowning of a member of the House of Oldenburg.
Frederik's church has the largest dome in Scandinavia with a span of 31 m. The dome rests on 12 columns . Tha inspiration was probably the Pantheon in Rome.
The foundation stone was set by king Frederick 5.th on October 31 1749 , but the construction was slowed by budget cuts and the death of Eigtved in 1754 and in 1770 the original plans for the church were discarted by Johan Friedrich Struensee ( who by the way had a very interesting and dramatic fate ).The church was left incomplete and stood ,in spite if several initiatives to complete it, as a ruin for nearly 150 years.
The present version of the church was designed by Ferdinand Meldahl and financed by Carl Frederik Tietgen who was a VERY prosperous businessman .
There are 2 photos in the workshop to show the rather dark , but beautiful interior.

Hello Dorte,
nice and sweet cathedral. Light is good and definition too. Pleasant clean architecture.
And a nice story to go with it...
A well composed presentation.
Kind Regards.
Stella

Hello Dorte,
A fine capture of this architectural beauty. You benefited from a very sympathetic light that has helped to bring out the detail very well. Very good clarity.

Hallo Dorte!
What an imposing building! In this picture I like especially the view from the shadow, from the dark to this sunlit building - a beautiful effect! The light from the side nearly creates a 3D effect concerning this great cupola. Really a not everyday's picture!
Greetings from autumnal grey and foggy Germany, and have a nice week!

Hi Dorte. what a convoluted birth for this beautiful church. You framed it very well with the rectangular shapes on either side, giving the composition depth and accentuating the church's structure. Lovely hints of blue on walls, windows, car.Well done. Regards. Klaudio.

Hi Dorte,
Nice photo, good contrast of colours, good symmetry and exposure.
Good work

Hej Dorte,
Et udmærket billede af Marmorkirken. Rigtig smukt med den blå himmel i baggrunden. Sollyset er også meget fint og jeg kan godt lide de fornemme facader på begge sider. Tak for synet!
Venlig hilsen,
Lars

Hi Dorte,

Great light fall in this lovely picture of this remarkable church so close to Amalienborg.
The clear and cool November light and the low sunshine gives the picture a special charm. I think that I only have picture of this church with a clouded sky or an ugly backlight.

Hej Dorte.
Great photo of 'Marmorkirken', not to mention the sky, it's terrific. The photo is very sharp and clear with very natural light and colours. The exterior of the church may look just a little bit like the Pantheon. The cupola looks like many other churches in Rome, but not really like the Pantheon. The interior is really great. The photos in the WS could have had a better light if the exposure time had been a bit longer. Now it is 1/1000 s. Anyway great photos, my friend.
Take care
Per

Hi Dorte,
lately I am strongly attracted by buildings as subjects of my photos (by the way, thanks for your kind comments..) and this one of yours is quite well accomplished. At a first glance, the lighting could appear too harsh, but actually thanks to it you were able to accent the shape of the dome. Also the slanted illumination of the four front columns creates pleasant spots of light. If I were you, I would only have cropped a bit the two palaces in order to further focus on the main subject. Anyway a very good posting. Congratulations and have a nice WE. Dario.

Hi Dorte,
Beautiful architecture image for Frederik's church the symmetrical composition is very attractive. Details are decorative and rich, colours and lights are very fine. Very well done! Have a nice week

Hi Dorte.
Your photo is so sharp and makes the church look incredibly impressive at the end of the street. I like the almost deserted look of the scene and the couple in the shade just walking out of the picture. It certainly is a magnificent piece of architecture and the light and shadow on it look superb. Great shot and interesting notes.
Regards,
Andrew

Hi Dorte,
Very nice POV and very symetric shot. I like the soft colours.
