Photographer’s Note
This photo taken laying on the floor.
For 600 years ago there was a tradition of decorating the inside of churches with motifs from the bible – at that time, reading was not a common skill among people and bibles was very expensive as well, so this kind of artworks was also called the poor man's bible.
This motif taken in Fanefjord church on Møn, where most of the mural (chalk) artwork made around 1450 by an artist known as "Elmelunde-mesteren”. Around 1660 was the artwork hidden under a new layer of white chalk for the next 270 years – But in 1932-34, was the artwork restored by removing the top layer of chalk.
This photo shows less the 10% of the total artwork in the church.
On the workshop can the whole series be seen.

Fabuleuses peintures Jeppe, je pensais qu'il s'agissait de tissus brodés !
Merci pour les liens et pour le partage.
Très bonne photographie.
Note très intéressante.
Fabulous paintings Jeppe, I thought that it was about embroidered tissues!
Thank you for the links and for the sharing.
Very good photography.
Very interesting note.

Oh my god it's a roof ! I thought it was a piece of textile ! Sorry for my mistake :)
An astonishing church (thanks a lot for the artwork link) and a good focus on one of the numerous details.
It was probably very hard to choose what you wanted to shoot.

Great capture of this old wall (or ceiling) painting, it looks nicely preserved. Compared to some of the other murals I've seen this one is rather decent in what it shows. Often the devil was a major participant in those murals, check this one for instance ;-))

Very funny Jeppe, I hope there weren't other people in the church ;)
The result of your pov is great, very sharp, colorful and in a perfect light. Very well done!

This is great Jep! Your note reminds me how we take for granted the Bible that we can so readily obtain. It was not always so... Very good picture and note! God's best, Tim

It reminds me of the colonial churches here in Peru, with all its biblical paintings but interpreted in a local way, via the sincretism between the catholicism brought by the Spanish conquerors and the 'pagan' beliefs of the Inkas.
Is this a fresco? I mean, not just wall painting, but the fresco technique of painting on 'lime'.
I first thought it was fabric due to detail it has. Is this naturally lit?

Some of my best arcitecture shoots have been taken lying on the floor.
this is a superb and wonderful scene Jeppe. I love these old painted ceilings.
this is beautifully photographed , did you do it with available light or use a flash?

Great picture of this roof. But why not have gone some meters ahaed to put the light out of the picture? This would be beter, or it was not possible?
Any case it is a good picture, well done Jeppe.

It is all worth the lying down. I like the soft pastel colors and the way you composed it...not the usual central composition. Good.

Hola Jeppe!
I could hardly figured out what was all about the photo when I saw the thumbnail, but now it is crystal clear, and it is great!!!
Very nice colors, and details of this ceiling, and very nice notes as well.
I picture you lying on the floor taking the pic, and the people at the surroundings looking weird at you... ;)
Un abrazo!

I also took a photo of a "kalkmaleri" in a church in Denmark this summer. Not as good looking as yours, but I will check if it is worth posting. This one has the great advantage of containing all the typical soft colours and no reflection of a flash, and no dark corners. I wonder what settings you worked with. It!s good - with a good note.
And Paradise Lost is of course the famous book by Milton. How about a theme group "Photos with titles from great books"?
