From 33,000 above Greenland on a Glasgow to Vancouver flight, taken with a 300mm lens, the turquoise colour of meltwater stands out from the grey cast of the West Greenland ice cap.

While glacial meltwater in high summer is not uncommon, the worrying thing is that the western fringes of the ice cap, here in the vicinity of Kangerlusaq (Sodre Stromfjord) display countles similar features.

With climate change the biggest threat to all our well being, this picture is a stark reminder of the consequences of unabated carbon release as the millions of gallons of fresh water locked up in the ice now head to the oceans and cause the sea levels to rise.

To me, this one image says it all

It's not the melt water we have to be worrying about it's those large ice caps breaking away and rapidly melting closer to te equator.

It's a very beautiful scene though considering how scary the subject matter is. I like your appreciation for the subject it's nice to see aware people here on trekearth.

Thanks for sharing
Andrew
