pretending it's spring Photo

Photographer’s Note

On a rare very bright and sunny winter day, one can nearly convince oneself that spring is almost here.
After doing the shopping I did a detour through the Botanical Gardens in Copenhagen, Ixus in pocket and eyes scanning the environment.
This guy were really insisting on the spring thing, reading a book in the sun sitting on the stone (cold) staircase. He had placed himself in the "right spot" so I sneaked the camera out of the pocket for a candid. I hope he don't mind.
The strong, clear sunlight inspired me to a graphic B/W version.

lovely capture. there is a great balance ranging from light to dark with so many shades and contrasts.
as a composition it´s perfect.
in b&w it´s intriguing this moment of quiet solitude in this rude environment.

We're doing the same thing here in Seattle. We had one week of spring weather and now no one wants to go back. I even had a student in class today wearing flip-flops (sandals) even though I'm wearing gloves outside.

Anywyay, I like the comoposition quite a bit and the B& W works well here, but at least on my screen (a laptop) the man's body looks a little too dark. I'd like to see a little more contrast on his left side.

Your photos are so unlike mine in many ways, and yet so effective, I really enjoy seeing your stuff. This is a case in point. Your skills in capturing geometry well suit this image nicely!

Very nice composition and framing.
That bright (even a bit overexposing) light of the winter sun created such harsh but interesting contrasts. We can "feel" the sun rays trying to warm the cold off the stone... Well seen!
