Slotsholmen

Yesterday the weather was more like Spring, so I had a good opportunity to take some new pictures in the centre of Copenhagen.
On this picture you can see the little island of Slotsholmen in the heart of the city, the island I already mentioned some times before. I took this picture from the bridge over Slotsholmskanalen, called Christian IV's Bro.

The most important building on the island is Christiansborg Slot, here in the middle of the picture, the building of among other things, Folketinget (the Parliament), Statsministeriet (Prime Minister's Office) and Højesteretten (the Supreme Court).
Christiansborg Slot is located on the place where the founder of Copenhagen, bishop Absalon of Roskilde, built the castle 'Absalons borg ved havn' in 1167.
The present castle was designed by Thorvald Jørgensen and completed 1928.

The building on the left hand side is Børsen (the Stock Exchange). It is built between 1620 and 1640 by King Christian IV as a market place. It is one of the oldest buildings in the city. It was designed by the Dutch architects Lorents and Hans van Steenwinckel in Dutch Renaissance-style, the same architects and style as Frederiksborg Slot in Hillerød.
The building is best known for its tower, Dragespiret (the Dragon Steeple), representing four dragon tails intertwining. Nowadays the building is the office of the Danish Chamber of Commerce.

The church on the right hand side is Holmens Kirke, which isn't located on Slotsholmen. The building was orignally an anchor smithy (built in 1563), but King Christian IV transformed it into the Church (1619) for the Danish Navy, what it still is.
It is also the church where Queen Margrethe II (when still Crown Princess) was maried to the French Count Henri de Montpezat (Prince Henrik) in 1967.

The cupola between Holmens Kirke and Christiansborg is part of Christiansborg Slotskirke.

This is also my 250th picture on TE.
I hope you like this photo!
