Operaen

Today I start a serie of pictures of the new Opera-building in Copenhagen. I cycled earlier today to this building and I took a lot of pictures. Here's the first one. The weather was very nice today, but the light was quite harsh.

Operaen has been built between June 2001 and October 2004 and opened in January 2005. The building is located on the island of Holmen, north of Christianshavn and opposite to the Royal Palace Amalienborg and Marmorkirken (Marble Church). The architect behind this project is Henning Larsen.
Operaen is a donation to the Danish state by A.P. Møller and Chastine McKinney-Møller Foundation. Møller was the co-founder of the company Maersk.
Operaen opened with the opera Aida by Verdi with presence of the Danish queen Margarethe II, the Danish prime-minister Anders Fogh-Rasmussen and Mærsk McKinney-Møller, son of A.P.Møller.
More information will come with my other pictures. :-)

I hope you like this picture!
