Grundtvigs Kirke II
This is another picture of the Grundtvigs Kirke in Bispebjerg, a suburb of Copenhagen, but this time also with a part of the surrounding houses.
The first picture can be seen here.
Grundtvigs Kirke was designed by the Danish architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen Klint and was built between 1921 and 1940. The church and the surrounding area is quite special I think. The church is very tall: 49 meter and built totally in brick stones. The surrounding houses are quite small and all built in the same kind of stone as the church. There is really a special atmosphere in that area.
I took this picture in the early evening with a very low sun in my back. The big shadow on the church comes from a huge poplar behind me on the cemetry.
I hope you like this second picture of the church too!

Hej Lars,
Very interesting architecture. This is a imponent building. Good POV. Nice light and colors, the big shadow don't disturb it. Good job!

Hi Lars,
A well composed shot rendered with exquisite light and shadows. The POV is ideal and the shadow effects enhance. I like the balance created by the buildings on each side and also the silhouetted man sitting on the bench. Well done, Lars.

Not bad Lars but you would have gained more if you had come to the scene earlier... this way half of your frame is unlit.
I have to admit the sunlit stone and roofs look great, but also I'm convinced you can do much better!

Ha Lars,
Erg leuke foto met deze kerk badend in het (late?) zonlicht. Heel mooie symetrie, maar de foto zou misschien ietsje gedraaid moeten worden. Ik vind de stijl trouwens een beetje Nederlands overkomen.
Groeten,

That is a classic POV for this building, getting so much of the surrounding buildings in the frame is perhaps a little less traditional but I think it works well here.
But I don't think this is the best moment of the day to photograph this church, the sun right from the back doesn't show the details of the brick facade so well, it would have been better to have the light more from the side.

This church is really impressive. It looks a little stalinist but it's very interesting. Are there any stained glasse windows ? I wonder where they could be ?!!

Hi Lars,
I must agree that its not a bad photo, but you have made us used to much better, the building is quite strange, but the shadows dont let us see it as much and the composition is a bit too symetrical.

Hi Lars
Framing central to make it static more impressive and the warm coloring are both perfect, indeed you came a bit late to spot the whole church out in full sunlight, with some PP you could have still can mask that and enforce some texturing to please everyone.

Hi Lars,
Excellent composition of this great building. The low sun is giving beautiful light and warm colours. I like the symmetry of your frame. Very well done!

I like the symmetry of this shot Lars. The planners have even put seats and paths there for symmetry. The late afternoon light is attractive on the church, although the shadows are quite strong.
good shot all the same

Hi Lars. Wow, now that's a church! In this excellent light you have captured it's size and epic nature. The strong play of the light and deep shadows makes this shot stand out and gives it impact. Impressive shot Lars!

Hi Lars,
Nice image of this great building!
Beautiful warm light & colours.
The symmetry is, in fact, in the buildings, even so i think that, p.es., the exclusion of the dark zone to the right can be a better solution.
Even so, is a nice image and thanks (as always) for the rich note!

Hi Lars, I like the symmetric composition, the lower angle light and the nice contrast between the light and the shade. A well capture of the quiet environment. A very well taken picture.

Very stiking Baltic architecture portrayed here, and made all the more dramatic in the low sun, the surrounding buildings frame it nicely.

Hi Lars,
To be hones, I like the previous one more. On the other hand, I'm glad you have posted this one too, because it shows the church in wider context, what makes it more informative and interesting.
Light is perfect here as well as colours. Sharpness is rather softer and I'm not sure if the picture is sloping to the right on any purpose.
Thanks,
Marek

I do not know if they are the rays of the low sun or the bricks which give this golden appearance to this church. That is the most beautiful thing of this photo, in my opinion. I think that you managed well the light conditions with shadow on one side and sun on the other. The composition is very simetric (except that on one side there is a man reading and on the other side, not) but perhaps you were concentrated on this simetry and did not notice tilt.

Wow!, Lars:
Excellent ubication of the sun. I like the light orange color on the buildings and the view is very natural, nice classic point of view and the scene is perfect.
Thanks for sharing

Hi Lars,
A really interesting architecture and your good choice of time and position of the lighting give this building a majestic look. I like the inclusion of the shadow as it gives us a subtle impression of what is in behind us without disturbing the subject too much. Very impressive and well seen!! Best regards.

Hoi Lars,
John.

Hej Lars, you manage to take the picture at the right time when the sun was low and highlighting the church. The low light is very nice creating a glow like appeareance on the wall of the church. The colours are very nice and vivid and a nice blue sky as a background. Nicely captured!

Hi Lars - I must have missed this one earlier, this is really amazing, a strange fat organ pipe structure, very original, and excellent symmetry made interesting by the different shadows, the low light gives everything a nice golden glow,

Hello Lars, this is a woderful golden light on the buildings and especially the red roofs. church is an odd design. It looks as if it is shaped like a pipe organ.

Hej Lars,
Although the first image of this church is not much attractive to me I find several interesting details in here. The diference of scale is impressive and the façade has an agressive shape, that works well with the façades of the houses and it must have been a fine example of architecture for the time. Your POV is very good and shows well the area and the special lighting is very beautiful, with the game of shadows and wonderful colours. Yes, I can imagine the special atmosphere you talk about. Very good work! I also liked the detail of the other shot of this building.
Hilsner,
Ricardo

Lars, la symétrie est ici la bienvenue pour donner de l'originalité au cliché. Les couleurs du soir sont excellentes pour donner aux pierres la couleur de l'or.

I love it! I love the way the sun makes the building GLOW between the shadows. How good the focus is and such fine details in every aspects of the image!
Nice!

Hi Lars.
Well I'm not a big fan of art-deco architecture and in general of the buildings designed during the 20th century, but I must admit that you picture and the way you composed it is really interesting. I like the way you played with the axial symetry and the great light on the building. The foreground is maybe slightly dar but I know how it can be difficult to manage the light in such conditions.
Thanks for sharing!

An interesting correspondance between the church and the two nearby buildings, but I believe that I prefer the buildings, which are more reminiscent of the traditional style. The church seems a bit massive for me, something not uncommon in that period.
All the best,
Emmanuel
