Photographer’s Note

Here is another photo of the colourful streets in the city of Ebeltoft.

Ebeltoft is a very old city but small city (just over 4.000 inhabitants) with beautiful houses and a historical centre. The name Ebeltoft is derived from Æpplætoftæ, which means "apple garden".

The city got city rights in 1301 of king Erik Menved, he probably did that because the inhabitants helped him to fight against the Norwegians.
But the city is probably much older and the bay was used as a natural harbour in the Viking times.

In the 16th and 17th the city became very rich, mostly because of the its harbour and trade with Norway.

In the 20th century, the city was quite poor, but that is maybe one of the reasons why the historical centre is so very well preserved. Nowadays, they attract a lot of tourists (there a a lot of hotels, campgins, tourists shops and other attractions). But the area of Djursland, where Ebeltoft is situated, still has a quite high unemployement rate compared to the rest of the country.

The photo is made smaller, and sharpened with Infran View. The composition is not very organised, and I didn't know what to do with the white chimney to the right (it looks like the sky is overlapping it), but I like the flowers and colours here.
