Photographer’s Note
As usual did I check "the Quality" of the sunset Saturday 19th of March and was surprised to spot a sunpillar - and decided to quit the Danish version of Jeopardy to get this instead - this sight (called a sunpillar) is made by ice-crystals in the clouds which reflects the sunlight upward.
And the title - There was a hunt to get a photo at 18:02 (local Danish time) on the 19th of March - but I noticed to late and this sight was to be seen at 18:19 pm

Hi Jeppe,
Jeopardy (one of our favourite programs when we are in Denmark) is every week. A sunpillar not so often I think. I never heard of it and could find it in a Dutch dictionary, so I think it is a phenomenon that doesn’t exist in Holland.
This is a very special sunset. Great you captured it for us.

Hi Jeppe,

The sky looks like it's made of silk. I find that the colors by themselves make up the composition of this photo, and are complemented just right with the partial tree. Perfect!

I like this central light up to the trees and also the choice from a great sky.
This is deep colored.
A real pleasure to see it.

You are too honest Jeppe! We never would have known the difference. Your sunset really runs the color gamut in impressive fashion. Is that lens flare in the shot or do you guys have two suns over there in Denmark? :) Personally I love the effect of multiple light burst in the sky. Nice job!

Time is spared.
The colors are just fantastic and the aurora from sun is simply divine.

Hej Jeppe,
I was not aware of these sunpillars, so thanks for enriching my knowledge, your photo shows well the phenomenon together with a beautiful array of warm colors.
Have a nice day,

Well, slightly too late for the 17:02 UTC hunt, but nonetheless a beautiful and atmospheric achievement, Jeppe. Very nice indeed this "halo" effect you managed to capture from the setting sun. Good horizontal layering with a fine transition between the colors.

Hi Jeppe,
This has to be a phenomenon special to your country. At least what I understand from the ciritics here. And it's so beautiful. I'm glad you're a little late otherwise we wouldn't see that perfect moment.
Three layers of the sky with amazing colors looks marvelous over the silhouette of the landscape.
Very very good job and thanks for sharing...

Hi Jeppe
Better late than never! I like the flare effect of the sun light. Superb color, lighting, sharpness, & graphism. The blue -vs- orange, makes for a good warm / cold opposition. Well done!

Hi Jeppe,
Maybe 17 minutes to late for the hunt but, your picture is very lovely photo, the sun beam in the heaven together with the dark foreground give a excellent composition.
Happy Easter.
John.

Wow! This absolutely great! This the first time I've ever seen a sunpillar. You should change your title to "17 minutes too late but just on time."
