[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Well, I also thought about calling this one "The Lost Generation", because that's the other side of the coin with this photo. But, as you know, the victor writes the history books, and this perception also won out this time around.
The picture shows one lucky spider "Araneus Quadratus" female bringing in the haul consisting of a darter female. Female Araneus Quadratus often have a sort of retreat in the plants on which her web is fastened. In case of danger, or in order to enjoy her meals in peace, she'll withdraw to this place.
The special thing about the photo is, however, that this spider was in fact going to eat not only darter bacon but also eggs for breakfast, "full English breakfast", so to speak. The darter female must have been about to lay eggs, and either in her struggles in the net or after death the eggs were released from her body. You can see a bundle of yellow-white eggs round her tail, a single one lower down, and - very poignantly - two higher up, almost looking like tears for the lost generation going to be spider's food instead of new little darters.
Treatment: Crop, Colours +5, Contrast +5, USM, resize and upload.

Thats one hell of a capture/one large spider Bente. Thought at first that it was the egg-sack you see some spiders carrying around but then it dawned what it was, sad tale but then thats life.
recon this a good pic maybe a litle larger would of been better but not much else .:0)))#
notes again brilliant

You knew exactely how to catch the "Breakfast Happening" at the very right moment.
And thank you for the most interesting notes.

Hi Bente, I was the first to say that this was marveous, but my critque dissapeared. So I will say it again, just one word :"Brilliant"

This is really an entomologist posting, with such a clear shot and your very instructive notes. I appreciate learning about nature that way. Lot's of photographic qualities too, re DOF and light. I suppose you used a fill-in flash and a tripod. Very well catched!

wow!!!! great work!!!!
