Photographer’s Note
This small lighthouse is located at Flensborg Fjord in the Danish-German Border Region, near Rinkenæs. It was built in 1896 (when this region was a part of Prussia) and guides westbound ships as they make their turn around the peninsula of Holnis on the German side.
You can visit the lighthouse but I recommend following this very nice walking path, the Gendarmstien (Gendarme Path).
Denmark is – as already mentioned before - a rather small country, but its history is very interesting. In 1920 - as a result of World War I - a plebiscite reunited the northern half of Schleswig with Denmark, and as a consequence the Gendarmstien/Gendarme Path was established. This border trail runs 74 km along the water's edge from Høruphav on the southern part of the island of Als to Padborg near the German border. The Gendarmes’ task was to guard the national border and control the maritime traffic. The patrolling was done on foot, and each gendarme, being accompanied by a dog, had a certain piece of the border to look after. In 1958 the Gendarmes became motorized. Today the Gendarme Path is one of the most beautiful hiking routes in Denmark and it follows the coast nearly all of the way along small roads and still existing paths. By following this path you are led to varying, scenic and lush landscapes. And there are nice inns and restaurants where meals are served that are a treat!

Hello Harriet,
This is a very cute little lighthouse, and the whole area looks very inviting. I could fancy a trek this way, if I didn't have so many other places I would like to visit. As always an interesting note.

Hallo Harriet!

Hi Harriet,
Indeed, this lighthouse is original in its size. Not a lot of steps to reach the top !!! The small hut is the home of the lighthouse keeper ??? A beautiful and interesting photo, the framing of the image is well balanced. The walk in the region must be very pleasant. Beautiful glance and thank you Harriet for the note.
With all my friendships and soon

Hi Harriet,
A beautiful lighthouse and so well placed here that this must be a school example of a utilisation of the "rule of thirds". And I can only agree, the balance becomes very good in such a case! Good colours and an interesting note!

Hallo Harriet,
ein schönes Bild von diesem Leuchtturm. Mir gefällt das weiche Licht und deine Bildgestaltung mit den kahlen Hecken und Gräsern am rechten Bildrand. Auch die Farben sind sehr schön.

Hello Harrit,
There is quite a soft focus on this shot but it in no way detracts from the quality of the image, the engaging details or the lovely composition.
There is enough sunlight to create gentle shadows which help to define the relief, and shape, but is great for capturing white as there is little risk of oe.
Interesting notes, as usual.
Kind regards,
Bev :-)

Hello Harriet,
very lovely small lighthouse! and I find the composition very good :) The view makes a very pleasant impression, and it's nice to continue looking at it. Maybe it's the whole atmosphere which was captured in the shot, maybe it's also because of the colours (I like their being rich, quiet and natural)... and of the perspective. Who cares as long as it's a nice-looking place? I also read the Note with interest - it might be a good advertisement for this place ;)
Kind regards,
Elena

Hi Harriet,
Thanks for the wonderful notes which explains very well regarding this scenic path. The photo is just as great in presenting such a peaceful place and its tempting scenery. I believe its the morning light you captured here with the nice looking 'miniature' lighthouse which is an attractive feature in this landscape. You have composed this exceedingly well, it is balanced and good to include the dry twigs in the FG beside the green patches. The white and red colours of the lighthouse contrast superbly well in this shot. Congrats.

Hi Harriet,
Ahhh Haaa it must be true what they say about great minds thinking along the same lines as you also choose a red and white lighthouse for today's post.
This is a very charming coastal scene with very clear natural colors and excellent sharp details.
Sounds like my kid of walking with many resturants to visit as well as the local landmarks.

Bonjour Harriet,
Amicalement.
Daniel.

hi Harriet
My history must be very rusty because the name Prussia sounded like my high school history word that I have long forgotten. So your note in a way brings me back to this region.
Very lovely view and scenic landscape with the lighthouse and this must be a lovely place to have a motor-caravan holiday at leisure pace. Perhaps a bit of sharpening to this due to compression loss.
Good capture of Flensborg Fjord [do I have to learn how to pronounce these names?] :))

Hello Harriet, I like the natural colours in this very pretty scene, the lighthouse is the main focus but because of the great depth there are many interesting things to look at all the way from the grass & shrubs in the FG to the coast in BG. A lovely image, enhanced by your well written informative note, sounds like a fantastic place to ride a bike Or go for a walk & breath in some nice fresh air.
Thanks

Hi Harriet,
What a marvelous holiday it would be to take the walking track, stopping at different places along the way, to stay a day or two.
A very nice capture showing an aspect of the coastline. The small lighthouse is well placed and the view over the water to the far shore is quite pretty. Lighthouses have always been a special part of my life, I've been going to sea in small boats for over 40 years. Many times I've felt the surge of relief when I've seen the loom of light cutting through a stormy night. Each light house has its own signature, and in the days before GPS navigation we would count the light houses as we went up or down the coast. On the east coast of Australia the lighthouses were spaced approx. 40 nautical miles apart so it made it quite easy to work out one's position if we were doing coastal hops.
Lovely shot.

Peter

Hello Harriet.
Lighthouses make great photos, don't they!
Another of your gently lit river-side shots, with warm sunlight, pale late winter sky and a great sense of stillness. I like this little dirt path which runs between the little lighthouse and the tussock of high grass. As usual, you have splendid informative notes.

Hi Harriet,
I really like the colors in this photo. I like the way the red jumps out of the natural landscape (as it should for a light house). I think I would have cropped it a little tighter from the the left and the bottom, but it is still an excellent composition. Great note too.
Sincerely,
Kate

Hello Harriet
The lone lighthouse (rather small I think) is a good focal point in the image. Well positioned off-centre in the image, like the balance you created with the bushes on the right. As always your note is highly educative & well written. I actually learn quite a lot reading them!

Hi Harriet
Your photo and note are most informative - in fact one day I just might hike along this path. When I have finished climbing up hills I would like to spend time on flatter paths and now I have another possibility for this time. TE is a great forum for learning about destinations far away.
