No visitors to Ilullisat ever forget the meaning of the town´s name: "The Icebergs"
All year round huge icebergs raising more than a metres above the water are stranded in the fiord.
These icebergs are all products of the mighty and most productive glacier in the Northern hemisphere.
The Ilulissat glacier, which daily gives birth to 20 millions tons of ice !

Ilulissats location 300 kilometres North of the polar circle causes the sun not to set from early june to late july.
A midnight cruise between the gigantic icebergs in the light of the midnight sun is an experience of a lifetime

A beautiful shot, Allan. I like the blue veins that run throght the white iceberg and the richness of colors. The light is soft and very good. Were you been standing on a boat?

Beautiful colors and fine detail in this nicely composed image Allan. The color of the ice is other-wordly. Excellent note as well. This is a fine contribution to TE. Thanks for sharing this with us.

I like this picture very much, Allan. I imagine, you felt very small,sailing along this huge iceberg. The hole looks like a door bringing you in the heart of the iceberg.
I love the beautiful blue colors of the berg contrasting to the white iceberg on the right site.
