Photographer’s Note
The building of Lojt Kirkeby Parish Church was started in the first decades of the 12th Century. The exact year is not known for certain. The church - a magnificent Romanesque fieldstone church - was an enormous project, ca. 2500 huge fieldstones and a not identified number of smaller fieldstones had to be carried to the building lot. This was done by the local peasants during the winter months, collecting the stones in the fields. The paths they used became later the main roads of the Parish and they are still existing.
The church, as it otherwise stands today, is the result of radical rebuilding in the Gothic style, undertaken from 1400 till about 1560. Red bricks were used, a kind of material not otherwise used in Denmark before approx. 1200. The outer walls of the church are the only surviving Romanesque elements today.
This stately church, a landmark, is situated on a hill above the landscape of Lojt-Land near Aabenraa in Southern Jutland. It is dedicated to Saint George.
Saint George was a soldier in the Guard of Emperor Diocletian in the Roman Empire and one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers, and is considered the biggest patron saint of all times, “ruling” over a wide range of professions, organizations and disease sufferers.

Bonsoir Harriet

Hi Harriet,
A very beautiful church! In a way it looks unmistakably Danish, but I do not see that typical stepped gable, you know what I mean. Still, you have found a very good POV here. Interesting mixture of that part of red bricks and the white part. How does it lok today with those trees all green?
Kind regards
Gunnar

Bonjour Harriet,
Amicalement.

Hi Harriet,
one more time I make sure that architecture (especially churches) in Denmark is so very special and really has its peculiar style! Very interesting photo of the church - very well composed; and, what I always appreciate, the colours of the photo appear natural and well-balanced!
The tree on the right helps a lot, in this respect :) Very good POV!
Warmest wishes from almost rainy Moscow,
Elena

Hallo Harriet,
Helmut

Another very nice photo of this very charming and lovely Church in such a natural and beautiful environment. Lovely light, I like the play of the shadow on the foreground grass, very rich in the green contrast very well with the white wall of the church. Very composition as well.

Fine colours palette Harriet,
a bright and clear photo, well composed and so pleasant to see. The cromatic contrast between green grass, white and red house walls and the deep blue sky is very effective and appealing.
All the best,

Hello Harriet,
The location with the fine old trees enhances the impression of the architecture!
The wonderful light makes the colours really beaming, and renders sharpness in all details...
A balanced composition to show this fine house of worship!

Hi Harriet,
You have captured this stately old church in brilliant warm light with a lovely blue sky backdrop.
Love the shadows on the lush green lawn that contrast so nicely with the sky.
The trees are apporpiately bare to allow a clear view as they lay tranquil shadows on the old beauty.

Hallo Harriet!

Hello Harriet
Pretty simple and staid design of the church. Like the POV which provides two sided perspective and the overhanging branches which frame the picture so well! I fact the shadow in the FG is a very good lead-in as well. Good shot & as always & fine accompanying note!

Ciao dear Harriet,
excellent composition where the geometric lines of the church oppose well with the soft lines of the trees. Very pleasant also the game of shades reflected on the grass. Good work, compliments!

Namaste Harriet,
great shot using diagonal angle. It gives the church a 3D effect. Great depth. Framing with the trees added a lot to it. The sky is also beautiful. Tfs. Have a nice weekend.
