Photographer’s Note

Despite starting off in heavy rain, Denmark has enjoyed the sunniest April since records began.
The arrival of warm weather and longer days is eagerly looked forward to by many people in Denmark. It is not a modern tradition; rather it is something, which goes deep into the marrow of the Danish people. It harkens back to the pagan traditions of thousands of years before Christianity and it is a longstanding part of Danish culture. Having longer days in Denmark means having more time to enjoy nature, to be together with the family and friends and to celebrate the joy of life.
The arrival of summer was originally celebrated in late April and early May. The trees and flowers were in bloom and people decorated their homes with flowers and leaves.
This is Genner Strand, a cosy and peaceful lagoon, situated 10 km north of Aabenraa at the Baltic coast. The area is surrounded by the quiet Southern Jutland nature with forests, fields and beaches.
The Danish bathing beaches are considered some of the finest in Northern Europe, and more than 200 Danish beaches have been awarded with the Blue Flag, indicating that the bathing water is of a high quality. This is also the case at Genner Strand. So let us hope for a wonderful summer season!

Good Morning Harriet,

This must be the first time that we have posted on the same page!

A very well composed shot, featuring elements that we associate with outdoor living, the good life!
Good pov, with the umbrella giving f/g interest and setting the tone of the shot.
The curve of the water leads gently around the frame, ensuring all is seen, and enjoyed.

Tja, eine Schwalbe - und auch wohl ein Sonnenschirm - machen noch keinen Sommer, aber es tut sich etwas ...
Dein lichtdurchflutetes Foto bringt eine schöne optimistische Stimmung rüber - das was wir gerade jetzt brauchen. Bald wird dieser Strand belebt sein...

Hi Harriet,
The tables are empty here, but not for a long time! This certainly looks like a wonderful beach, especially for families with children. The white parasol is placed in a counterangle to the trees in the background, thus creating a fine balance in the composition!

Hello Harriet,
The worshipping of the sun is a tradition that the Swedes share with the Danes and the other Scandinavian peoples, enduring those long, dark winters. I like this composition very much. It would probably be the ultimate POV for this place. I also like the pleasant surroundings, like the green hill and the little forest just by the beach.

l'endroit est assurément reposant.
Sans doute parce que la météo est sereine et les eux calmes.
J'aime beaucoup ce bosquet d'arbres imposant qui garni bien l'arrière plan.
Le parasol est un peu envahissant et attire un peu trop le regard.

A fine, smooth composition. One in which technique and atmosphere are perfectly well balanced. Excellent lighting and colors, a nice, most comprehensive angle, and that magnificent white umbrella right upfront to act as a sort of catalyst. Thanks to it the whole view comes to full life. Summer is now closer than ever. But as the swedish writer Karin Boye once wrote. (freely translated) Of course there is a goal with our travell. But its the effort and struggeling of getting there wich makes it worth while. So enjoy spring whilst it last.

du hast hier ein sehr einladendes Plätzchen gefunden und das tolle Licht passt ganz besonders gut zu diesem Bild. Ein Beweis für den herrlichen April 2009. Wenn nun auch der Sommer noch halbwegs so gut wird, dürften die Plätze unter dem Schirm schnell bestzt sein. :-)

Weather report from Norway: Summer was here for a few days, but regretfully left again...!
Well, snow is long gone, lawns and trees are green and hopefully the temperature will rise soon...
The image is a nice reminder of what summer also is about - fun on the beach!

The seascape seems to be so peacefull and relaxing at the moment, but in a few days it will be empty of people?
